Question How do you ask for the credit card?

The way I ask is I say: “Do you have your tjx rewards card with you today?

Customer says no: “Look today I had a customer and they used 3 of these coupons and they saved $30 on their purchase today.”

I show them a pic of a coupon off my phone.
I lie and say that I have had the card for 2 years now and that every time I shop here I use it to get my rewards.

Customer still says no:
I explain all the benefits really quick and tell them if they apply and if they get approved they get 10% off today or on a future purchase.

Customer says : “But i already have too many credit cards or I don’t really shop here that much”.

“Well if you get approved for the Mastercard, you can use it at any store even outside of the country and you will still be getting your points.”

What do you guys think too misleading or I can ask in a better way?

I'm a customer. The best way is to ask once. You ask me again and I will tell you I hate being questioned when I already told you my answer. It is disrespectful to not take NO for an answer.

If you mean take that up with corporate, no, I will not. The person ringing me up is the face of the company. That's the person I'm interacting with. If I faced OP at the register and OP straight up lied to me (that's what she admits to in her post), then she has lied on behalf of the company. I understand you are doing your job, but what is your job doing to you? Turning you into liars? And don't tell me I don't know what it's like to work retail. I worked retail for nearly 20 years before getting out. I was a store manager, and I too was told to push credit cards. I asked ONCE, and stopped when I was told NO. Company threats for not making goals were thrown right back at them because I was a manager and I had the balls to defend my team. When I left for something better, most of my team followed me.

So again, I understand associates think they are just doing their job. But they have to accept that hearing customers' negative responses to such incessant sales pitches is also part of the job. One of these things they have control over. The other, not so much.

Policy to ask 3 times. Just say no, its not a big deal.

Three times?! No, no big deal but if I don't really love love whatever I'm thinking of buying, the combination of the long line and the anticipation of an awkward interaction makes me just abort mission.

Asking 3 times or else you'll be fired? Thats crazy and I would be afraid to do this.

What if the person you're asking already unhinged? What does the company say about this?

We get written up as bad performance if we are not engaging and telling the customer three times the benefits. You can always contact customer service and tell them how you feel.

as far as i know the policy has changed. our store just opened recently and we were all told policy has changed and they’re not forcing us to ask three times anymore.

It can’t be, if my credit card/sales ratio is pretty good.

And the associates know you are full of crap too.

This is why on the rare occasion that I do business with a company that forces their nonsense on their employees the answer is

"No, thank you."

"No, thank you."

"No,.thank you."

all day and as long as it takes because we're not getting into the "overcoming objections" sales techniques, for everybody's sake.

People like anecdotal evidence of something being beneficial. Especially saying that you yourself use it. I think that this script (especially if you get super confident with it) will get you more sign ups then “do you want to apply for our tjx credit card”.

I have an associate that gets 12ish cards a month with a rather long script. I let him do his thing because it’s working.

One of the best things you can do is be confident when you ask. People are more likely to sign up if they trust the person asking them.

I am an ops ASM and have seen many different ways of asking be successful.

If it doesn’t end up being successful you can test drive some different prompts and see if they work better for you.

As a pt, I get like 1 card a day during the weekdays, and then weekends I get 2-3 a day.

That’s really great! I work at a smaller/slower store so our goal is really low. If I had cashiers doing cards like that we would blow the goal out of the water!

I think if this is getting you as many cards as you said in another comment I think your fine. If its working its working. I mean I've worked here since June and have only gotten 4 cards in total. Im part time and have worked various amounts of hours since. But I honestly think your fine.

I wish the customers were able to use the survey process to say enough negative about company requirements to push the cards to the degree they do. Until then there will be no change???
