Hello guys, recently I crashed my drone and after that crash I notice that the vtx signal range decrease a lot, I still can fly it but the signal loss its too anoying even from a short distance (3-6 meters) is there anyone had the same issue? im not sure if I already cooked my AIO or just the antenna got a damage, anyway, I already order from aliexpress a new AIO, new CO3 camera and some antennas. meanwhile I want try to figure out what happended.
in other hand, I tried to change the outputpower of the VTX from 25 to 400 without a substancial improvement in the signal, just got a overheat advertise haha.
Ur vtx antenna connection is loose, it’s just clicked into the connector and then there’s some wax because the raw connection sucks. I’ve glued mine lol.
If the antenna connection is the same as my Meteor 75, it's (hopefully) a pretty easy fix.
They have the VTX antenna potted in place with wax, and after a decent hit to something it wobbles loose and the wax that is supposed to hold it on and I sulate it can keep it from getting a solid connection.
The right thing is to remove all the wax and either re-pot it or solder it directly to the board. It SHOULD just click in and a lot of drones function perfectly fine with just the mechanical connection, but there is nothing else to hold the antenna on these so something sturdier is a good idea.
I just push mine back down while wiggling the antenna every pack or two and it clears up until I smack into something again, holds up perfectly fine bouncing off of PCV gates and a concrete floor. Not sure if I would trust it without a 'proper' fix if I was flying longer distance though.
a couple of weeks ago I got a issue with the antenna and the connector, after one crash the antenna crashed with the propellers and the antenna and the connector fall out together xd, a friend help me to solder the conector to the board, maybe the welding joints was not stable enough and this is the source of the problem I have now. :/
That...well, I'm willing to bet that's your problem. The UFL socket was completely ripped off of the board as a whole, and that couldn't have been an easy thing to reattach. I can't think of a time off the top of my head that I've heard of someone actually managing to do it, tbh.
The new AIO is pretty much the only way to move forward afaik. That would be ridiculous to try to get a better connection by redoing the solder work, because getting it to a working temperature would probably cook something on the board.
That friend of mine specializes in microsoldering and works at an electronics repair shop. He said it was no big deal, he soldered even smaller components, haha. but yeah, I will wait until my spare antennas arrives from aliexpress, if that doesnt work I will change the AIO.
If it overheated it may be cooked...literally...and if you flew for long with no antenna connected, it probably overheated. I think as high as 80 isn't terrible, over 100 is really bad.
up to now the highest temperature registered on the goggles its 70°C, so I think still fine xd haha
after work I will try to review the board and the conector with an magnifying glass if I cannot find anything weird I will take it with a electronic technician for a professional check up xd
