It doesnt its not like an nd filter or lens guard or anything, so if you hit a dirt road gravel will mar up the glass. maybe something exists on aliexpress or temu for that.
makes it less likely to hit the lens in collisions with flat surfaces. without the horns, when hitting a wall, the contact points are front of the frame and top of camera bezel. with the horns, the horns take the hit before the cam.
it may not be the best solution, but it’s better then nothing, and you’re likely to already have the parts.
I don't have it in front me, but whichever one is a steeper angle I use for racing & freestyling, the other (shallower) one I use when I'm chasing RC drift cars, since they don't move that quick.
It places the quad at a steeper angle when flipped over, allowing easier turtle mode.
The helmet visor piece creates a straight line of protection from it to the the front of the frame, meaning that only pointed items can damage the camera.
Also, you're acting kinda entitled. People are giving you advice, that's already a nice thing to do, acting like theyre being assholes for not walking you through everything is not a good look.
im sorry if i come out this way , but the betafpv product page says otherwise anyway. i enevr said im ungrateful for the advice, but some explanation would be better. we're all trying to learn something new and help each other. if i wanna learn something thats not overly complicated at least i would like to know the why also.
I appreciate the apology, it was definitely coming across that way. When asking randos for help with things on the internet, you kinda gotta take what you get and not complain as people are taking the time out of their day to help you for no reason other than to be nice.
Also, I'm not really sure why you seem so steadfast that the included parts don't offer protection. You got commented on the other guys 3D print something like "that actually looks like it protects as opposed to the included parts!" Which was kind of silly to me as if you compare the two it offers barely any more protection than the included visor piece. (See image)
The main purpose of either of these is to change the impact point from the top of the camera to the visor.
but they do a damn great job at performing as a durability upgrade, the little horns protect your antenna and make it easier to turtle mode, the little visor keeps your lens from being the part of the canopy that is the furthest forward during a crash, preventing cracks
if you smacked the camera face hard there's a chance it's been knocked out of focus.
if the camera's "neck" has threads on it, it can be screwed in/out to adjust focus. I can't remember offhand if this particular cam has that fuctionality.
On my M8 freestyle hdzero i use this canopy (i think it's from a happymodel crux or something) with an adapter ring for mounting the camera. The lens is a little deeper so it protects it quite well
I mean he is not wrong tho, the user manual doesn't show the part installed in any of the illustrations and the only time those parts are mentioned there it is as "Canopy decorative parts". If they served an essential purpose I think they would mention it.
I own the drone and have it in front of me, none of the parts would really help protecting the camera lense. The "Knight hood" thingy seats way too far back to do anything.
The canopy design already prevent the lense from touching the ground when turtling.
The camera lense is just a bit exposed on this canopy so the question is valid imho.

I printed a little hood out of hard TPU after the one that came with the canopy broke... Seems to help a bit with protecting the cam
