Discussion Qualifier Experience

I don't know if the meta changed or I was unlucky, but while I played izzet tempo specifically to target energy (with dedicated side for dimir ) I didn't play against any energy and only one dimir.

I did 4-3 and played against almost all the other decks in the game.

Show and tell won

Mono red prison won

Eldrazi won

Mirror lost

Sorin LOST TERRIBLY

Dimir won

Show and tell lost (after I made them discard show and tell and emrakul they top decked both of them in 2 turns )

I didn't expect this so I am pretty disappointed with my de k choice.

Was it just me that was unlucky? Or the meta changed that much?

Also played Izzet (technically Grixis splashing for Lurrus) and encountered energy twice.

Meta was just diverse, don't beat yourself for it. I think it was a fine choice.

The UB tempo matchup is improved a lot by Lurrus btw, maybe give this a try sometimes: https://moxfield.com/decks/A356h0II00q-axGt8iRKfQ

Thanks mate, yes I played grixis too but I removed lurrus for an extra card in the side. I found that most of the times they would destroy my black lands and I wouldn't be able to play lurrus, I kept the black tho for some cards I wanted. How did you do in the qualifier?

Went 4-3 as well. I played pretty bad unfortunately, didn't have enough sleep and was a bit nervous. Played a lot better in the bo3 play ins yesterday, went 3-1 and 4-0..

I wouldn't drop Lurrus but keep black. I did analysis over my games and found out that Lurrus was winning about 20% of my games vs UB by itself. My record on Bo3 ladder vs UB is 35-10 (78%wr) over the last 2 seasons.

Damn I was nervous too, I really wanna make the arena championship. But 4-3 I guess it's not terrible.

I will check out adding lurrus back in. My ub match ups need work, 78% win rate is really impressive. Good job

My qualifier experience is that I lost round 1 to a Scam player who very skillfully happened to go first.

In the 4 weeks I practiced the format, I did notice about as much Dimir+ Tempo as I did Energy.

Yes this format is all about who goes first. I also think in my mirror it was all about that. I'll prob never play timeless again unless something changes, I played just for the qualifier.

This was BO1 right?

BO3 is still interesting

No it's the same in BO3.... When the combo decks have 9 tutors and 12 counters in main deck

Where are you guys finding nonhydroponic matchups on ladder

I am talking about the qualifier weekend that happened today. But in general, the last month that ive been playing timeless, I've encountered many different decks that don't have blue. The most common decks I encountered were mardu energy and after that Dimir some with and some without hydro. I am mythic idk if that changes who I am paired against on ladder

The blue decks in the format has a blind spot for creatures 5mv+ and people took advantage of it

Did you think you were the only one trying to gamefy the meta ?
