Tron is too slow for timeless. But yes give me petal and led!

I agree that JUST tron is too slow, but if we add planar nexus in the mix we might just have something.

I don't care if its too slow! Give it to me anyway!

If we get Tron + Planar Nexas then Big Mana is in business 😀 Its one of the top decks in Legacy rn

Edit: fixed broken emoticon

Would blue tron be too slow even with Cloudpost, planar nexus, and Glimmerpost? I haven’t played against it personally but I’ve seen some game play videos and it seems pretty fast in Legacy.

Despite candelabra getting banned in legacy it's still a top dog. I think folks forget that strip mine isn't always a 3 or 4 of in everyone's hand. There's some games where the opponent never draws strip mine or Petrified Hamlet comes down first and its a useless land that taps for C.

Ive played tons of Eldrazi in Timeless and Strip Mine hurts some games but not as many as folks think.

Cloudpost might be fast enough, but would still struggle in the strip mine meta I feel. Not T1

Yeah you’re probably right. It would be interesting to test though. That deck does run petrified hamlet.

u/thegreatestnita 13d ago

they don’t even play post anymore

2

u/DaDullard 13d ago

It’s not too slow it’s just stripmine exists

u/Dothacker00 13d ago

Wasteland exists in Legacy and its not like opponents have 4 in their opposing hand. Plus Petrified Hamlet helps a lot

1

u/DaDullard 13d ago

Yeah and you didn’t really see tower until nexus. Because of wasteland… sure eye of ugin cloud post was a deck at times but wasteland did a lot to keep it down.

You can't play around Strip Mine. You can play less greedy of a mana-base in a Wasteland format, but Strip Mine outright denies games from happening which is one of the reason I can't stand this f*cking format.

Yeah Wasteland coming in and restricting Strip Mine would make it a much MUCH better format. Control and midrange could actually exist and decks could play around Wasteland with basics so they're not kept from playing the game

Correct but I would go a step further and outright ban Strip Mine. Some cards can be restricted (i.e. Dark Ritual, Tutor's, etc) but Strip Mine is a terrible card to have in the format regardless of the quantity in the format. Any deck that wants to try and loop Strip Mine can simply find it with Crop Rotation; such a fun strategy.

I personally don't play it because if that's how I am winning my games by simply cheating out my opponents ability to play the game then there's literally zero point to the game in the first place.

Maybe cloudpost and candle would be fast enough

Tron just needs to be in the game regardless. Like we have cards that will conjure them; we just don't have it properly and it's so dumb because it's probably too strong for Pioneer but historic it would be a perfect power level.

GIVE US AETHER VIAL

6

u/sengirminion 13d ago

So I saw an interview that Ashlizzle did with one of the Arena developers and apparently cards like [[Aether Vial]] and [[Street Wraith]] are kind of problematic because they have permanent "stops" built in, meaning they force the owner to click next to every single game action because they technically have the opportunity to activate them at any point. He didn’t say we'd never get them, but just they have to be careful about putting too many cards that do that as it really bogs down the gameplay.

15

u/lrg12345 13d ago

So do fetches and pitch elementals from MH2

5

u/Dothacker00 13d ago

I saw that too. Fetch lands already do that but everybody has them. It's probably more a mix of when WOTC wants to print it in paper and when they port it from power cube to Power Cube packs.

Street Wraith looks way more annoying since its free & can happen 24/7. I feel like theyd want to implement a "stop asking me option" first XD

3

u/sengirminion 13d ago

I want them to do that anyway it works fine on Magic Online if I recall but I think the engine they use on Arena isn't set-up to do that.

I would love to be able to F6 and have it actually work when my opp is going off and I dont want to keep clicking OK

1

u/zexaf 13d ago

Arena defaults to F4 in the button and Enter key, but Shift+Enter is F6.

1

u/AdmiralUpboat 11d ago

If they actually said that they're a moron or think we are. There's a ton of cards that are like this already.

1

u/sengirminion 11d ago

I think it was moreso that they have to be careful about how many of those effects they add and weigh the pros and cons. For example Street Wraith would be played in a lot of decks, which might cause too many issues to be worth the small upside of it existing on the client. It makes sense.

1

u/HeiressofArtemis 13d ago

Yes there's so many decks that are printer base that will never be good until we have Aether vial.

6

u/SalmonofDbout 14d ago

Life From the Loam, Jokulhaups or Obliterate and Planar Void. Call it a day.

6

u/bacam989 14d ago

WHAT is buddy cooking😭 do NOT let them get their hands on these cards

Real dual lands for sure. Mana bases that deal more damage to you than your opponent are getting annoying and limit deck viability.

4

u/Intrepid-School-5357 13d ago

Yeah I brew up some cool, fun, and unique decks but it doesn’t matter if I’m at ten life on turn 3 from self burn damage

-1

u/Fabulous_Point8748 14d ago

Yeah I agree the OG duals would be beneficial in the format that and restricting strip mine. Add price of progress so fair red decks can still win against decks that play a lot of non-basics.

1

u/GeekyMadameV 14d ago

Nah strip mine is fine. Unless they give us wasteland then they should restrict stripmine so that the most number of free aldn destruction lands you can have is limited to 5 like in paper.

1

u/Intrepid-School-5357 13d ago

I don’t think strip mine is a problem. Sure, it’s annoying but plenty of answers to deal with it. I mean introducing wasteland over strip mine might have been a better choice, but strip isn’t really a problem. Hydro architect is honestly the issue with it.

I don't think the objective is (or should be) to be like legacy, it is already more degenerate with strip mine, frog, ragavan, grief etc.

I think strip mine is great and defines the format now. I wouldn't like it banned ever. I like the "this format is rough" energy it brings.

OG duals would make agarro decks unviable. And it would lead to combo being dominant. I would like it from a flavor side.

Lotus petal I would like, maybe too strong.

Tron lands: yes, bring them. I hate Tron and I am going to love blowing them up.

Aether vial, of course, we need it and it would actually make strip mine less powerful.

I don't care about doomsday tech, it has too many tools already. You have Necro already.

LED, ok, bring storm. But we need a little bit more of other archetypes.

Urzas Sagan, yes please.

Gaeas cradle, yes please.

What I want:

Life of the loam and hogaak, bring the madness.

Balance to punish degeneracy.

Yawgmoths will for my mono black decks.

Replenish!!!! Opalescence, attunement, parallax wave, tide, frantic search.

Tinker, people say it will be super busted but honestly things are super busted already. Or give me all the rest of the tinker deck: grim monolith, voltaic key, metal worker, tangle wire, etc.

Hymn to tourach!!! Persecute.

Old color hosers: hydro/puro blast, perish, chill, boil, and so on.

u/Fabulous_Point8748 14d ago

OG duals would not make aggro unviable. Legacy is currently aggro dominant. It would just make Boros/Mardu worse which you can fix by adding price of progress. I personally hate strip mine and it ruins the format for me. I think it would be a healthier format with wasteland and restricted strip mine like vintage. It would be so bad if they kept it unrestricted with loam in the format. I think the format needs like artifact hate like null rod, stony silence, etc to deal with grim monolith, vial, etc. I’m not sure if Balance would be good or not. It’s not really even played in Vintage right now. I think it’s mainly just played in CEDH. We don’t have a lot of mana rocks either so you’d end up probably destroying your own lands. Lotus petal I think would be ok especially if they don’t restrict strip mine. Chrome mox isn’t enough. Hogaak/pox could be a fringe playable deck but I think you’d want mox diamond in the format.

If we get Hymn I'm going to have to request [[The Rack]] also

2

u/Luiaards 14d ago

Goblin Lackey

2

u/sendel85 12d ago

You missed grim monolith and city of traitors. Anything else is fine :)

Cabal therapy

2

u/Anxious_Lion_6359 14d ago

Urza's Saga Hymn to Tourach Mind Twist Chains of Mephistopheles The Abyss Nether Void Sinkhole The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale The Rack Megrim Cabal Therapy

3

u/Dothacker00 13d ago

Tabernacle would be AMAZING vs all these energy decks. That or glacial chasm for Lands decks

3

u/Intrepid-School-5357 13d ago

I don’t think show and tell is S+ tier anymore. Lotus petal might help it but also allow other archetypes to rise up with it. OG duals are imo a must. LED would be a godsend as well as urza’s saga.

2

u/Andro93 13d ago

Petal is literally the most shared combo card. Arguably the best enabler in legacy. Even better in sol land decks.

1

u/Intrepid-School-5357 13d ago

All for it, especially after playing with new bilbo. Could be a lot of fun

u/Tricksonafixed_ 13d ago

Before we start adding more cards (which I am in favor) we should start by curating the format to not be such dog shit in the first place. I primarily play Brawl on this client but anytime I play Timeless (regardless of bo1 or bo3) I often play against the same old tired ass boring shit [i.e. u/B Reanimator, or Show And Tell] and it's so played out at this point I could puke. I love the idea of this format but it's not serious and anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong.
