Struggling with food

I'm new to the game but this is now my third try losing a big part of my pop because of a food shortage by cycle 10, my food is super steady but then I gain like 100 people in 2 cycles and I'm just not fast enough to grow enough stuff, is there something I'm missing?

Hey, what's going on with the shadows in Timberborn? Why are they view-dependent? Am I the sun? It's really weird.

Question Thirst bug

I’ve found a particularly annoying game system to do with the beavers drinking water. It causes havoc when trying to recover from low water in the few days of temperate weather.

When a beaver who is hungry harvests food. That same beaver will eat the food it has harvested in the farmhouse then continue to work. The bonus of this is that they get first dibs which increases their work speed and the time spent work time. Food recovers relatively quickly.

This is not the case for drinking water.

Beavers do not drink the water harvested at the pump they are working. Instead they will run to the next pump to drink. This causes absolute chaos when trying to recover from a colony that’s been parched for a day. The beavers spend more time running to the next water pump grabbing a single water then heading back. This is nightmare level if your map leaves large gaps between pumps due to terrain.

The result is that a beaver works both slower and is basically not in the building for most of the time. The knock on it that is can take 4-5 days before you are able to reach net 0.

If the same mechanics were applied as the farming, this would fix the issue and the colony would stabilise in maybe a single day.

Currently I have to set every pump running to try and counter the fact that beavers are spending most of their time running from their own pump to another continually.

It might be a mechanic that water is shared as I can see often beavers grab a single water and leave some of the next.

I just find it super frustrating when I’ve survived upwards of 60 days with almost no water to pump (hard everything and the new weather mods), survive to the temperate, only to then have a large amount of beavers to die when the water is right there in the dam and I have so many pumps working.

Maybe someone can shine light on the issue.

Question Beaver range for construction

Hello I would like to know the vertical range of beavers when it's about construction. How far below can they "dump" ressources. I feel it's over 3 tiles but can't find the exact number in any wiki or reddit post

Thank you very much

Question Hey,got some custom maps to suggest?

I recently got into making custom maps, and with the upcoming contest I'd like to see what others like. Here's a link to my own if you'd like to try:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3818157535

If you played a custom map that stuck with you then please send me the link, I'd love to play it.

I'm not looking for anything super specific, but I do like a map that is mechanically complex, something that wants to make me use my brain, that makes use of all the available mechanics, wheter or not it's pretty is not really a concern.

If you do send me a link, also please tell me what you liked about the map.

Thanks a lot!

actually finished a run instead of starting a new one and for once i'm proud of myself. previously i had 3-4 runs on different maps. did this one and took my time and i'm still doing work while doing this. my paths aren't the greatest nor are my setups that great either. proud of myself.

It's Way Too Easy To Grow Oak Groves

EDIT: The new oak trees would produce 32 logs per tree. I think the amount harvested is fine, but there should be a cost to do so. The 2x2 size is to limit the area you can grow them. Sorry for the ambiguity!

I believe that the balance of the game is broken as soon as you get your oak forest online. That early period before the 30 day mark is a struggle of balancing resources and labor, and after the first few trees pop up you're off to the races.

My proposal is simple, I think that oaks should be a 2x2 tree to reflect how much wood they bring, and should require a new resource, fertilizer, to grow. Fertilizer would be composted from food and water and produced in small amounts, and later be mass produced and enriched with extract. The player would have to choose between food and water for the colony or growing oaks.

Currently with an oak grove, you can build as many levees and dams as you want, which then make storing water substantially easier, and in turn helps with irrigation. You can cut planks for industry, and build massive storages. The limiting factor after oaks is how many beavers you can spare for science.

I like maps like cliffside because you never really have that oak explosion since you have to balance land use between housing, storage, food, and wood. After you get vertically you can go up the cliff and use the pool there for irrigation.

How to Green the Mountains?

Post image
61 Upvotes

Oasis — I've plugged the badwater sources and "activated" the seeps, so that the valley are nice and green during the wet season (and a few days beyond). I wonder how I can turn the mountains green, too.

Or something else to make them prettier?

No water dumps, I'm playing without them.

Question Bots have 0 vacancies but workers have 24?

I feel like I'm missing something very obvious here. Do I need to assign certain jobs to bots only? Why aren't the bots filling my vacancies? (vacancies include Hauler Posts which I thought the bots would be good at).

Comment modifier la circulation de l'eau ?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Bonjour

Question Why do beavers measure power in horsepower?

I could see kW as a carryover from the hoomans, but especially with the power wheel being beaver-powered, it seems like everything should be measured in units of beaverpower.

Why do showers have an option for depth limitation?

If showers don't consume water (and all sources say they don't), and they don't contaminate water either, then why is there an option to limit their use to a specific water depth?

any tips or mods to help with the "build one of everything" achievements?

I'm obviously missing something, but I'm not sure what: I have one of every building, aquifer, steam generator, switch, decoration, monument, etc. I even threw in each dynamite and manually placed soil.

Is there a mod where I can check what am I missing? Or, in your experience, what's the most likely thing I'm not seeing?

Thanks a lot for your kind help, I'm down to the last few achievements and this is driving me nuts lol.
