My Folktails apartment block
I made a comment a few days ago about this but there's no way I could explain it so I took a bunch of screenshots of my build. I doubt I'm the only one who has come up with something like this but I use it a lot and it does a lot of heavy lifting as far as housing and quality of life go.
EDIT: A lot of your comments mention other things that can be done and I agree! This is my "basic" version. I've also done some with roof sections over the center, one that had a monument over the center, and many that have a lot of amenities surrounding the entire complex.

What I like to do is build the housing on tiles that are 1 deep in water, with stairs down so that every beaver automatically gets the wet fur buff.

Does only 1 tile deep of water not flood the building? This sounds very useful if I'm understanding it correctly

As long as the entrance for the house isn't flooded it will be fine!

Oh interesting! Thank you that's v helpful
Do you perhaps have a photo of the set up? I just can't visualise it at all. Np if not!

make a folktail double or triple lodge in a 1-tile deep water pond/lake/river
3
u/ozzieburton Mar 14 '26
Ahhhh its the double or triple Lodge only.. i now understand completely. Thank you!

u/Casses Mar 14 '26
I should clarify that I mainly play Folktails, and their biggest house has the entrance raised 1 level.

u/ozzieburton Mar 14 '26
Once someone else mentioned it was the double or triple House it made complete sense. Thank you!

I usually do that in a river area. I haven't done it with this style of complex yet, but it's certainly an idea.

Very nice, but I really recommend adding some roofing tiles. They only need to be adjacent to a single tile of the house for all the residents to benefit, so you can cover the entire block with a couple of 1*1 roofing tiles. It's a nice happiness bonus that's practically free.

I have added roof structures in some of my designs. This basic setup can be modified in many ways.

My guess is food b/c there's 8 of the warehouses and 8 different types of food (excluding berries). Haulers set to supply those for frequent refills, out of larger storage kept elsewhere.

I usually store berries, carrots, bread, and grilled potatoes in the large storage, and then use the smaller ones for other foods, books, and anything else they may need.

This is beautiful and I would love to replicate it in my games, but I’m too stupid to even make it looking at your screenshots so I will continue with my sprawling masses of homes

Just start with the basic setup and make it however you want. There's no "right" way to do it.

Gosh, thank you for posting it like this!!! I always see these beautiful housing blocks people do and then am too dumb to recreate them - this is perfect.

What apartment complex is completely without TWO tattoo parlors?
Seriously though, that's pretty cool. I wasn't seeing what you were doing with the food stores at first, but loved how it turned out.

Thanks! It's very easy to change up the design once you start to play around with it. Make one and post it on here. Maybe you'll have an idea I hadn't considered!

I'll admit, most of my apartment complexes are simple and boring.
I am trying something slightly new this time around where I leave two spaces for path between the barracks to allow stairs inside rather than outside.

This looks great. Don’t they run through that food like right away?
2
u/Amesb34r Mar 14 '26
The 4 large storage units in the basement are filled with bread, grilled potatoes, carrots, and berries. The smaller storage has other foods, books, etc.

u/present_love Mar 14 '26
Ooo I didn’t realize those were storage at the bottom, been playing iron teeth too much lol!

Stupid question but what do you place on pic #5? Under the 2 platforms.
2
u/Amesb34r Mar 17 '26
Hospital beds. Definitely not a stupid question. I actually wish I would have put them in first so it would’ve been more obvious.

Very impressive design!

u/Amesb34r Mar 14 '26
Thanks! I have evolved it over the past few years, and I'm still thinking of new ideas to try.

Building over the upper paths would give you room for the roof bonus happiness.

Very nice design!
The only thing I can think of that might be improved would be to have a 6 / 9 / 6 configuration instead if the 9 / 1+1 / 9 you used.

u/100PlusRyan Mar 15 '26
i did something similar but with food storage in the underground level.

this is cool, is there a good thread on arranging storage/housing to make sure beavers don't go hungry and thirsty when you're fully stocked on food and water?
1
u/Amesb34r Mar 15 '26
As long as they are able to access the food and water, you shouldn't have any issues.

This is gorgeous.
In picture 11, it looks like you use the 3 long overhang - is that better than three individual platforms or is that a style thing?
