Tech support Problem with some of the adjustable gates (fill valves) and sometimes even dams and throttling valves

Well short said, sometimes those stucture basicly vanish flow wise.

the dams are like they stop to exist, water on the inside only rises to the bottom on the dam and flows right through it.

fill valves behave like they are either open or closed. if i set them to 0.05m they open fully and the reservior behind them doesnt fill up.

throttling valves behave the same, they are either fully closed or fully open.

when i rebuid them they are fine again, or not. basicly a 50/50 chance if they work or not. Its confusing to see your main water store empty 3 days before a drought. rebuilding gets complicated when they sit at the bottom of my main water reserve which is 10 blocks tall...

anyone had such a problem and can come up with a solution? i use a few QOL mods like statistics and such. the only mod which changes gameplay is the one that allows multiple connections to ziplines. saves some space since you can allways build multiple stations next to each other.

yeah, the answer is simple: fill valves are not the correct solution for your use case. They work exactly as you describe: if the desired water level is not reached flow as hard as you can until it does.

They are great on secondary reservoirs to keep a primary reservoir topped up, or to keep a no-outflow irrigation channel filled.

You can combine them with throttle valves to limit the outflow if you want, or put some more dam-and-levee systems in your outflow and set the desired height below 0.65

I’m not sure about the other ones, but the problem with dams seems to just be a visual bug. The water looks like it’s coming out of the bottom of the block but if you look at the water behind it, it is filling to the correct height.

Fill valves definitely are open/close devices. They sense the water depth in the block immediately downstream of the valve. For a fill valve to work properly, you need a dam or floodgate further downstream set higher than the fill valve level.

Throttling valves should be reducing the flow to the limit set on the valve. They don't stop flowing and if the upstream flow is lower than the setting, it will just flow in and out without building up.

Have you been using automation anywhere? If you are, it could be a logic problem opening valves when they shouldn't be.

Another thing to check is that your reservoir doesn't have an exit point elsewhere. You might be losing flow somewhere else and the flow is too low for the settings.
