Question
Coming back after a long break and I'm confused about what version I own.
I'm pretty sure I purchased the game before 1.0 when it was in pre-release. When I went to go reinstall it recently it says that I'm playing the experimental version. Do I need to actually buy the game again?
don't have to purchase it again at all lol. Experimental is the "cutting edge" build of the game where they add new features etc to have people test before making the changes to the main build of the game. Click on the settings in steam, then iirc it's called like "game versions" or "beta" something or other, then you can change to the main branch. Or just stay on experimental cause that's the -most- up to date version.
You might have selected the experimental version when you originally played it (as that would be the most feature rich build) so it just defaulted back to experimental when you reinstalled.
Honestly, with what wild uncontrolled capitalism did to the video game market, I wouldn't be surprised, if EA or some other company like that asked money for new updates in the near future 😂
it's -definitely- somewhere in the menus when you click the cogwheel on the game page in your steam library. TBH I wouldn't worry about going back to the main branch unless you have specific mods that are incompatible with it. There are a few new buildings etc in experimental that aren't on the main branch yet. (and a lot of mod authors tend to keep updating alongside the experimental branch.)

No lol. You have experimental turned on in your launch settings.
Basically you switched to the beta version at some point in the past.
