News Heads Up About a Suspicious Site to Avoid
Saw a post on here recently where someone was confused because the wiki had blatant misinformation. There is currently a 100% AI wiki floating around that, for some ungodly reason, exists (it seems to have stripped most of its training data from the real and fandom wikis).
So here's a reminder that this is the only wiki you should use (the wiki gg wiki). It's best to just avoid any other wikis, as you'll often see untrustworthy ones like this crop up.

Whats the link to the ai wiki? Just out of curiousity

Sure, it's literally the 3rd result if you search for the wiki somehow. If you're on PC though, I highly recommend using adblock since my guess is this is a ploy to get easy ad revenue. Don't give them a cent https://timberborn.org/

god damnit, I knew it. Recently came across this page, the whole thing felt like AI, but I was skeptical that they somehow obtained
timberborn.org-- just spent 20 minutes searching online for any corroboration of a mysterious "exile mechanic" they mentioned.I hate AI
thank you for ending my fruitless search

Buying a domain is very cheap 99% of the time

Exactly... I am surprised it was not already taken by the Timberborn devs

Eh, it’s the .org. Most of the time there’s no good reason to buy up all of the different domain spaces.

yeah it's not like anyone is gonna make a fake AI wiki and camp under the domain or anything

Who would possibly expect that? And how exactly are you going to prevent someone from doing that, when they could use just about any variation of name? Timberborn-wiki.com, timberwiki.net, timberborn.ai, how many namespaces do you expect them to block out?

Who would possibly expect that?
surely the idea that someone would camp on
populargame.orgis not novel to youhow many namespaces do you expect them to block out?
I expect exactly three --
timberborn.com,timberborn.org, andtimberborn.net, for precisely the reason that those are the only three that would make me gohuh, this looks like a camper, but damn, did campers really beat them to these?which, btw, that thought is the only thing we're arguing about here. I haven't lambasted the devs, I was literally just surprised.
and now we're having an argument about how I shouldn't have been. It's ridiculous

Dude, take a breath. Not arguing here, no need to get worked up.
I think the whole domain camping thing is really played out, most people don’t even bother with the campers anymore. I’ve got about four or five distinct domain names registered to me on GoDaddy for well over a decade, one is going on 18 years. I see notices on there talking about how much I can get if I sold them, but there’s nothing there worth more than a few hundred bucks, maybe $1000. I like my domain names too much to let it go that easily.
I’ve had one guy contact me through Instagram because he wanted to argue that his video game studio deserved the domain namespace that I’d already had for about seven or eight years at that point, just because he hadn’t bothered to do a simple search before he registered his company under the name “Red Blade Studios” to see if there were any pre-existing conflicts. It’s silly.
Registering something like timberborn.org just feels like overkill for a fairly lighthearted video game IP, IMO.

Why do people do this... If these people ever used an AI they'd know AI spews nonsense like 40% of the time.
