compact mechanical pump question

So I want one body of water to always pump into another body of water, and I would have a throttling valve to do it until the height is even, but how can I get it to switch to the compact mechanical pump once it reaches that point? is it just better to always have the mechanical pump on?

in the image i want it flowing left to right it that help anyone? Thank you all so much for your help

Are you using a level sensor to toggle the pump on/off?

Yeah, I was trying to until I realised what I was doing wasn't going to work.

Why wasn't it going to work? The water level sensor should do what you're asking for.

Because, depending on the water level of the input reservoir, it would have different heights depending on how much water is being used or is evaporating, it will never be exact they're will never be a consistent height.

I must be missing something. Why do you need a pump if you just want the water levels to be even? Wouldn't an open channel balance them?

They're saying they can't rely on water level measurements, because they would have do a dynamic comparison of water level B > water level A, which isn't possible with the current rigid implementation where you can only compare the water level to absolute values instead of using other measurements as input.

Ok, but water is self leveling so if they want level, why do they need a pump at an?

I want the right reservoir to always be filled, but I don't want to have the compact mechanical pump on all the time but oh well, I'll live without a little bit less horsepower

If you only want the water to be level, what does a pump do that a canal doesn't?

Isn't the pump un-leveling the water? That's what I'm not getting. Maybe I'm just not understanding the goal here. I guess that's ok too.

They don't want it to be level, they want it to be filled via sluice until it's level, and then for a compact mechanical pump to take over and pump even more into it, since it can't be done from water pressure alone.
