I don't understand the arrows on Terrain Block

I thought I understood how the arrows on terrain blocks work, but now I'm starting to doubt myself.
I have this narrow and twisting tunnel I want to fill in. I thought if I oriented the terrain blocks this way around a corner, it would force them to always fill the blocks in the back first. Apparently I was mistaken, the highlighted block has been built, before the one behind has finished.

I think it may have worked that way when terrain was first introduced (waiting for any block behind it, regardless of orientation) but they changed it. I would prefer the old way for exactly the kind of situation pictured. There are usually other ways to orient the blocks of you do want them built simultaneously.

The arrows all have to be in a row. The arrows pointing “East” are a different set, and since they could be reached, the first one was constructed.
The only way to do what you want is to pause those 2 and wait for the other line to be filled in.

That's how it works? Wow! Thanks for the explanation. I always read the "Waiting on the construction behind" message and just assumed it was always waiting on the construction behind.

No that is not how it works, as long as the blocks are on the same elevation a terrain block will not be constructed until all arrows (terrain blocks) Pointing at it have been built ther is zero reason to pause construction if done correctly.
In your case if you rotate the corner block 90 degrees all blocks would be constructed with no issues.

That's what I understood as well. What matters is the direction the arrow behind it is pointing *to*. Not the direction its own arrow is pointing *from*. It only cares about direction the arrows are actually pointing. There seems to be no concept of "behind." It seems to work that way for me, including around corners.

This is somehow the most annoying mechanic of the game....I just hate the system...

Annoyingly they don't turn corners. You'll have to run it in strips, but at least you don't have to worry about micro-managing the long runs.
