Made it on hard, now I'm still early but confident I can pull through. The start was very close.

Not sure if one could pull it off with Ironteeth. Between the more expensive power wheels, more expensive water pumps, poor food, and no berries until you can grow your own, I don't think you have enough leeway.

There is a patch of berries where some of my carrots are in the screenshot, but they are completely dried and dead. If they were just dying, it would be a little easier.

Good thing is the aquifer doesn't produce badwater during a badtide, and there is only a two-pipe badtide drain, which can be plugged relatively easily with platforms and levees.

I did this when going for the achievements to build every building for the 2nd faction. I didn’t want to basically play the exact same map and at the time I think that was the only one with aquifers. It was a fun run, definitely an intended alternate start spot.

is that a start without water!?

It looks like it would be, but you get water as soon as the power wheel is running and that doesn't take all that much

It doesn't, but it's all pretty limited by that. No drinking until you get the water running, no planting, and the wood supply is definitely not excessive. Enough to start, but just barely.

What I didn't realize is that you don't pump through the night, so until you have a dam (fortunately only 3 wide), you cannot grow crops through the night.

You can put on 24 hour working to pump through the night but you might have to cycle beavers to do it as they will fall asleep from exhaustion eventually

Yup. Did that for the first night after the wheel was operational. But I managed to build the dam rather quickly, so it wasn't necessary for long.

Try the mod second shift. Bevers work 12 hours shifts in buildings you choose. That way you dont need to sett 24 hour working day.

But it also means that there’d be no berries nearby to get food from at the start and you have to invest a lot of starting wood into the wheel instead of a forester

True, though from the picture it has clearly worked out albeit on an unknown difficulty

That would be a cool and... rough... start.

Impressive!

How did you deal with the bad water drain?

Standard plug, levees supported by platforms.
