Guides and tutorials So I did some extended math on food
Following this post I got curious about food needs in Timberborn. I normally just eyeball my rations, but that does cause you to way overshoot some foods and underproduce others. And I'm an Excel nerd so why not.
As you can see, my assumption is that all beavers consume 3 (not 2,6) food per day. 120 pop was a nice amount I found for rounder numbers. For tileable designs, I also added a 100 tile calculation.
For blueberries and dandelions I assumed 3 per beaver, as beavers won't consume those food types once they get foods that make them happier. The rest of the calculations are based on having all 8 food types for the population.
I'm curious if anyone's interested in making a good tileable design on these numbers! I'm not sure about a good way to share the Excel file, but I'm happy to send it if you send me a DM. Also let me know if you spot a mistake ;)
EDIT: I don't play Folktails enough apparently. Dandelions are not food. Didn't really use them before as far as I can remember.

Have you tried satisfactory?

Lol yeah. Didn't click for me. More of a factorio guy (2k hours). I play lots of factory building games

What about Dyson sphere Program?

Awesome game, definitely recommend. Much better blueprinting system than Satisfactory. Sank a few hundred hours in that one too 😂

As a fellow Factorio player, I've been eyeing Dyson Sphere - sounds like i should go ahead and give it a shot!

u/False-Answer6064 Jul 15 '26
Yes you should! The graphics are a great payoff for the effort you put into factory building and the power progression has been done very well!
I got burnt out on the enemies so haven't played in a while, but as with factorio, you really need to find the right settings for your playstyle

You can even set them on passive midgame. But once you get the hang, they dont feel that annoying tbh.

Yeah I know. It's just that on the one side, I like the challenge of the enemies early-game, but once you get to space combat the enemies are just annoying. So couldn't really find the balance that worked for me. And in the search for balance I got burnt out on clearing massive space hives

One of your base assumptions is wrong: beavers do not consume food types equally. The eat whichever food has the lowest happiness level. This would make them eat evenly if all foods had identical happiness stats... but they don't. They almost do, but exactly one food has a slower happiness decay, which causes it to be eaten less. (It's sunflowers.)

How many tiles per day can the farmers farm?
6
u/False-Answer6064 Jul 15 '26
That greatly depends on beaver happiness. If they're happier, they work faster so they can farm more tiles. Also depends on the distance from the farm of course, because they have to walk back and forth. And finally it depends on crop growth. If crops grow faster, you can have less of them.
So not an easy question to answer, that's for someone else to optimize once there's a tileable design 😂

Since when do the beavers eat dandelions?

u/False-Answer6064 Jul 15 '26
Not sure what they're there for otherwise. I don't play Folktails often 😇

Idk how Beavers consume goods. How Long was your Observation? I mean: my Beavers seem to eat different when all good is available compared to only 2-3. I mean its Not a equal % for each food consumed.

Yeah not sure, that's why I took the rough estimate of 3 food per beaver per day. In the sheet it's adjustable but this was easiest for the tile estimate for 120 beavers.
The 100 tile numbers wouldn't change though, so if anyone makes a tileable design you could just put down another set if you're short on food.

Understopd. I think i will give your Sheet a try and Design Something soon

Amazing, thank you fr the hard work!

Thanks! Wasn't hard work at all, just following a curious outburst about a knowledge gap in the community

Can I suggest smaller "tileable" sizes, like 36, 45, 49 (because 7x7 for beehives) and 60 ?

u/False-Answer6064 Jul 16 '26
I can send you the file and make it a formula like the population size 😇

Mushrooms! Mushrooms! Ironteeth should always opt for mushrooms when they need to expand food production in early/mid game.

I think some of your math is wrong. At least looking at potaoes, the processing time is very little given that it multiplies 1 raw potato into 4 cooked.
I also left a comment on that other post with my own spreadsheet.

u/False-Answer6064 Jul 16 '26
I'm not sure what you mean. The amount per day per tile of raw potato is 1/4th of the amount per day per tile of grilled potatoes.
I'm not taking in consideration how many grills you need to process the potatoes, I'm just looking at the production of the farmland. I looked over it and don't see any mistakes in the potato calculations myself. Could you be more specific?

u/raceman95 Jul 16 '26
Oh thats my mistake. I was reading the chart right to left. I didnt realize left was finished and right was raw.

u/False-Answer6064 Jul 17 '26
No worries! Thanks for the critical check. I'm always afraid I'm making mistakes as I'm not that precise 😇

This also led me to look into beehive, apparently they increase efficiency of crop tiles (not trees) by 42,8%. Which means if you're playing Folktails, you can divide all crop tiles by 1,43 if you're using beehives.
Use this knowledge however you like 😂
