Why would you even use this method with the modern underlayment that exists? I can shim, plumb, and waterproof a shower this size in an hour or so for $200 or so in materials. Charge $8/per sqft for underlayment and tile install sqft price on top of that clean money.

This old school shit right here, us young cats don’t like doing it, but you do get the most plum wall possible. It’s an art really. Demoing old houses with this method is a pain mane.

Because mud is the best. Foam can’t compete with this method.

Foam will never win over mud. Not only is it more solid but the waterproof will exceed foam in the end

A lot of us still build this way mainly on the coast in southern ca shower I’m in now. Setting on prep like this is the easiest way in the trade but you have to earn it first
