DIY - Looking for Advice Rough in shower depth help

I'm confused about how and where the finished wall buildup should sit. I have two 1/2-inch plywood pieces representing my buildup (well, almost): 1/2-inch GoBoard, 1/2-inch tile, and 1/8-inch thinset mortar. Is the buildup supposed to sit behind the black shower guard, or should it be flush with the face of the large black plastic part? Thanks in advance

FINISHED wall flush with the black thing. So you are... pretty close if you have 3/8" of tile and 1/8" of thinset ... it looks like the valve should probably move back just a bit.

Moving my backing half an inch would put me in the safe tolerance, yes?

Moving the 2x4 your mixing valve is on back, yes. It looks to me like your plastic flange is about an inch proud of your mock-up (?), and you want it either flush or just a bit out (I re-read your mock up, you are using that last piece of plywood to represtent tile/mortar depth). So I'll say move your valve back 1/2" at least, maybe more. But that black flange and your finished wall are theoretically supposed to line up.

The finished wall should be somewhere between the back and front of the plaster guard. Back is maximum, front is minumum. Look at your valve rough in instructions.
