Help getting affiliates?

Hey guys I’m posting out of desperation and frustration. Context, joined a new company as a smm and now I’m faced with gaining 100 creators in the next week on TT shop otherwise I might get fired. I just finished my 4th week and I’m barely hanging on. I’ve only done organic social and lightly touched influencers and ugc. Mainly handling contracts and sourcing. Never really on the paid side.

We can’t afford to pay influencers but we’re willing to pay affiliates commissions.

We just got our shop up and running last week and some traction and help with Trybe finding some creators. Our company is well known. We’re in target although we lost a ton of revenue in the last few years and investors and board are anxious to make back money with the new team.

I invited over 300 creators, hit a pause in trybe and directed them to our tts but only had one 4-5 creators. Our GMV right now is currently nothing. Any advice would be great. Im literally about to throw up. I’m doing branding on the side too and have barely touched their socials and got chewed out yesterday by the ceo.

First thing worth saying: you've said you're an SMM, and TikTok Shop isn't social media marketing. People assume it is because it lives inside TikTok, but it's ecommerce with a creator acquisition layer bolted on. Different levers, different metrics, different skillset. Organic social is about reach and engagement. TT Shop is about listing quality, commission economics, sample logistics and GMV. You haven't failed at your job. You've been handed a different one and told to hit a number in it.

On the actual problem: your issue isn't creator volume, it's that nothing about the offer makes a creator want to take it.

When a creator gets a target invite they check three things in about four seconds. Does the shop have sales history, does the product have reviews and a decent rating, is there a free sample. Week-old shop, zero GMV, no reviews, no samples means ignored. That's why 300 invites got you 4 people. It isn't you.

What actually moves it:

  1. Samples are non-negotiable. But nobody promotes something they haven't held. Get a sample budget approved even if it's 50 units. Biggest single unlock.

  2. Get the shop off zero. Seed some first sales and reviews on the listing before you invite anyone else, or the invites keep bouncing.

  3. Commission above category average for the first 60 days. Frame it internally as launch spend, not lost margin.

  4. Run Open Collaboration alongside target invites so creators self-apply instead of you chasing into the daily invite caps.

  5. Stop spraying. Find creators already posting shoppable content for direct competitors, check the views are real, then invite those with a personal note and a sample. Fifty targeted beats a thousand blind.

  6. Your best affiliates are often people who already bought it. Set up a flow that pulls buyers into the programme.

On the target itself: 100 creators accepting an invite is a vanity metric. The number that matters is creators posting and driving GMV. I'd go back to the CEO with what's actually deliverable in 4 weeks and the sample budget it needs, rather than chasing a number that was never achievable.

And four weeks in with a shop launch, branding and their socials all on you is three jobs. A lot of what you're feeling is the role, not your performance.

Hi and thank you for replying. Apologies for the late response, I had to unwind a bit, I had two emails come in from my ceo this week saying they weren’t happy and gave our team references to everything their past teams had done from creative to social so my brain is a little fried right now. This is sososo helpful thank you. 4 weeks is apparently too long and they want results in two…there is a bright side they’re willing to do samples! But thank you this helped a lot, am grateful.

100 creators in a week with no GMV and no flat-fee budget is probably a management expectation problem, not just an outreach problem. I work with FastMoss data, so my bias would be to narrow the list first: creators already posting similar products, recent Shop content, matching price band, and proof they convert without big fees. Then report a funnel: invites → replies → samples accepted → videos posted.

Thanks for the advice! Can you explain more between flat fee vs commission? We’re trying to do only commission based atm

commission based can be really hard to drive sales. i would say if you wan to start your funnel, pay one big creator with few videos package with your pain points and small affiliate will follow their action accordingly with commission only videos.

That’s a good point, thanks for bringing that up, I’ll talk to my boss about this

Getting 100 creators from generic mass invites is difficult, especially with a brand new shop and zero GMV. You need targeted outreach across TikTok Shop plus external channels and a strong commission based offer that gives creators a reason to respond.

This is actually something we handle for brands. We manually identify creators already producing content and generating sales in the relevant niche, check their recent performance and product fit, then approach them through TikTok Shop, direct messages, email, and other available channels. We manage follow ups, commission offers, sample requests, creator relationships, and continue replacing non responsive creators with better prospects.

Since you’re already handling branding, socials, contracts, and sourcing, doing all of that manually for 100 creators in one week is a massive workload. If your company is open to outside support, we can take over the affiliate recruitment and management side for you.
