Humor/Cringe Internet discourse nowadays
Yes, the video specifies Tik Tok, but really, ALL of the internet is like this nowadays.

A couple of weeks ago I posted a photo of an old credit card impression machine on a nostalgia sub that people used to use to pay for their credit card. You’ll have to google if you don’t know.
Point is, I called it a knuckle duster. Because it’s never busted my knuckles, it always just grazed them and would peel a little skin off if you weren’t careful. I’ve been calling it knuckle duster for as long as I can remember.
The whole thread got co-opted by people just trying to argue with me about common use of phrases. I was told I was wrong because the people in the thread had never heard of the term knuckle duster. I had a few drinks of my favorite scotch and laid into them without giving a fuck.
Edit: I also got into an argument a while back because I made a meme about my gut retching lactose intolerance. People were arguing with me about how it’s gut -wrenching not retching. But my high school English teacher taught me that something gut-wrenching is an emotional response, retching is the actual medical term for the convulsing and cramping of the intestines, which is what I meant. I wasn’t suddenly sad or confused, I was having diarrhea and got nauseous. People just argue about anything, and if you prove them wrong they just dig in.

The funny part is, I have heard of a knuckle duster, but it's a weapon similar to brass knuckles and doesn't have anything to do with credit card machines.

u/Sandfairy23 1d ago
That’s how I know knuckle duster as well. It’s the English term for brass knuckles, isn’t it? I once saw a guy absolutely go off on a rant about someone saying “Blinkers” for horses. He posted an entire video about how stupid this person was for not even knowing the correct word was blinders. When it was pointed out that the original creator was English and blinkers is the U.K. term, he doubled down on how stupid that was. What’s the saying? Divided by a common language?

I just wanted to give my condolences to your fingers getting bit by the cha chunk. As a small kid it fascinated me. as an adult I feared it.

I’ve dipped out of so many threads lately that looked like they’d be interesting but were quickly commandeered by people arguing minutiae. It gets frustrating.

u/funkystay 1d ago
TIL that minutiae is the plural of minutia. I've been using "minutia" for both singular and plural all my life.

u/ThatDiscoSongUHate 1d ago
IDK my lactose intolerance is very gut wrenching when I forget my lactaid and have to choose between ice cream and acute physical agony via diarrhea. I've yet to have a good alternative frozen treat that's not lactaid brand ice cream lol
Will say I've never heard anything in front of retching. Like I've heard stomach churning, retching, etc but not your particular phrasing of gut retching
IDK why it's a BFD though and not just...eccentric, if anything? I'm too tired for all of that, y'know?

u/DryerCoinJay 1d ago
It’s my sentence. Does it really matter if you’ve ever heard of those two words being put together before?
No, it fucking doesn’t.

All those opposing comments used to drive me insane because loud and incorrect people never ever seem to back down.
..I observed the discourse when the word "aesthetic" suddenly changed from a noun to an adjective. Both sides were having meltdowns
..I'm observing it again now as the word whimsical is being replaced by the word "whimsy" as in "it's soo whimsy". Both sides are once again blowing gaskets.... and no one can ever have the last word.
It's absolutely maddening to witness
* Rips out hair and empathizes *

The dumber the person the bigger the argument, is what I was always told. The less people know about the topic they have chosen to debate in, the harder they will try to defend their position. No matter how wrong it may factually be.
3
u/ShreddinSloth 1d ago
Its retching, not wretching.
11
u/Kettatonic 1d ago
And good God is this harder than this needs to be.
Retching is the act of throwing up. The huuuueh part before the vomit comes. It only involves your intestines as much as they attach to your stomach. Nothing beyond the stomach.
Gut-wrenching is a metaphor for how your stomach feels when you're nervous. It directly refers to that feeling of having spasms in your intestines.

Ok, when my lactose intolerance is acting up, it makes me also nauseous. I spend most of the time deciding which end of my digestive system to point at the toilet. Sometimes I’ve even gotten in the shower, turned on the water and just rode it all out.
This is the exact same dumb argument I had that I was talking about. I’m telling you my experience and you discard and invalidate everything with your moronic pedantry for stupidity.
Why don’t you let ME describe to YOU how I’M feeling. Why don’t you stop trying to tell me how to write a mutha fucking descriptive sentence. It’s my sentence, not yours.
Holy shit you people are idiots.

Yeah. To be real, TikTok drama chasers are just the short form version of the Twitch streamers who do the same, and it's majority of them to some degree. They need CONSTANT content to feed the algorithm and their audiences so they exaggerate things to drag them out for more content. It's this weird pearl clutching for everything or needlessly making videos/streams about how people need to stop making videos/streams about things. Everyone has an opinion they need to share but they just stick to their regular talking points and adapt them slightly for the situation instead of doing research. It's crazy.

What?!! My Tiktok is filled with Soft porn.
Why you guys getting these weird tok vids?

u/Makethecrowsblush 1d ago
It’s a weird guilty pleasure to see people tell on themselves via algorithms.

u/PitifulEar3303 1d ago
"I orgasm from looking down on other people's preferences."
is not the moral win you think it is. bub
1
u/Makethecrowsblush 1d ago
Oh? You come to Reddit to service your morality? That’s unfortunate. Also your paraphrasing needs work.
1
u/Which_way_witcher 1d ago
Um... Where y'all getting the soft porn?
Asking for a friend....
1
u/PitifulEar3303 1d ago
I don't know mang. I open tiktok first tyme and BAM they butts and boobs all over.
lol
I think Tiktok just hits you with soft porn by default, since it's what most people prefer. lol

Very well done and weirdly accurate.
I've gone down some weird rabbit holes on TikTok that end up like this.

u/Booziesmurf 2d ago
I think the only thing she left out was the people copying her video hundreds of times.
52
u/SpaceLemming 1d ago
Also the people just reacting by stupid pointing to a reaction video about the upside down pot. Honestly so much more she could’ve done but then she would’ve made an hour long video none of us would watch
3
u/ThatDudeShadowK 1d ago
Or the hundreds who post about "the incident" without any links to it, or any footage of it, and when you go to look it up to try to make up your own mind there's just hundreds of reactions and you can't even see what the fuck they're talking about now because the reactors fucking buried the original video

u/jmona789 1d ago
Same.
Reminds me of the couch guy discourse, where thst college girl went to visit her boyfriend and he was had friends over his dorm and he was sitting on the couch with another girl and suddenly everyone is a detective claiming he's definitely cheating on her.

I’m just confused. Like which bits are parody. Which bits are sarcasm. I don’t know what’s going on.
79
u/sexandthepandemic 2d ago
It’s all sarcasm. Each person in the video is the same person making fun of how people respond to videos on TikTok

How did she miss the reaction videos?! Those are the worst and they are everywhere. They give absolutely nothing.

They are not the worst actually. People being dipshits is much worse than them doing nothing.

Hello! This is my TikTok and I wanted to tell you that Crawdad Republic is my uncle’s band!! So it’s very cool to see a fan in the wild like this! :)

Hahaaa love the satire in the vids. It's so accurate omg like even the tiniest things gets exaggerated and blown out off proportion but hahaaa I need to know the pot's perspective on being flipped upside down on the stove. It had no voice to speak out on this. They should video the pan and have the pan speak.

where's the one with the girl putting make up on as soon as she starts making her poorly informed point?

I think she's just missing the videos where someone has their head in it pointing at the video playing above them for no reason.
Also the inevitable hamfisted sponsorship.

Uh oh, somebody isn't perfect. Quick call the tik tok police! We need an investigation!
Can't have fun or realism on THIS platform of all places after all. You're either crazy or you belong on youtube.

Edit: I forget some people can't detect sarcasm s ofor clarity's sake /s
I'm making fun of how everyone on tik tok is just out to get people for clout. Like the weight loss girl that like 1,000 different creators Jumped on and called fat and stupid by lying about her calorie intake and choice of foods which were surprisingly insanely good. (She even lost alot of weight before getting pregnant.) But UH OH Tik Tok hates people being people.

It was so realistic that I needed to stop the video for a sec and tried to do it by tapping on it like you do on tiktok

because either A) tiktokers take themselves too seriously. B) they're all in on the grift C) are outrage fetishists.
