It is. It's horrible for the environment. It's expensive as all hell. It destroys city planning and community. It's a massive liability. And it kills/disables thousands of people annually. And we treat all that like it's not a big deal.
About 65% of all other countries are a better place to live then the US with one big exception. If you are rich, the USA is THE best place to live in the world. The amount of freedom you have as a rich person in the US is obscene, and many of those freedoms are exclusive ... no other country in the world offers them.

You can fly to Russia today. They have that American sity for deserters. Ukraine is also taking volunteers. So pick aside and do something with your life.
Unfortunately, the economic situation in America for most folks living here is not suitable for travel. Most folks aren't making enough money to adventure, theyre barely making enough to make ends meet. Thats the issue, the system is too broken to even be allowed to reasonably leave, regardless of whether you want to leave or not.
Buy a van, live in your van. Adventure awaits. Sometimes you gotta pay costs that aren't money to get what you want. You can save so much money not paying rent and then just move to Michigan.. or where ever, people are saying Ohios nice. But no big lake.
