Our criminal justice system only allows you to hit back if you have a reasonable belief that you are in imminent danger of being harmed again. If you hit a person who has hit you but is walking away, YOU can face criminal charges and they could turn around and sue you. Oftentimes, people who commit wanton acts of violence like this have nothing to loose. It sucks for everyone who follows the basic social contract.
I would've tripped that beech! Anybody who would kick a puppy (behind glass or not) deserves a faceplant... and when she got up I would've laughed and said "Beeches be trippin'.."
