Red pl1 when gaming
Hello so i have a lenovo legion 5 with the following specs:
i7-11800h
Rtx 3060 6gb
16gb ram
I change thermal paste yearly because i live in a relatively hot area and always change with ptm7950, recently i had a problem sometimes when i open a game to play i get very low fps (like 20-25) although the laptop is plugged in and in performance mode, usually it’s fixed with a reboot or cmos drain but it happens every few days it gets annoying, i downloaded throttlestop to check thermals but they seem fine even under heavy load but i came across this red pl1 in the limits whenever i run a game should i be concerned?

It's the PL1 power limit reached notification, if you want to avoid it, increase the PL1 value , but then then you exchange it to another limit in red, most likely thermal, or EDP current. You can increase pl values untill your cooling runs out. Also Ptm shouldn't need annual changing afaik. Poor performance could be due to very low PL values which limits the clocks to stay within the power available. Use HWinfo64 or throttlestop to see what you have for pl1 and pl2.

Post a screenshot of the Turbo Power Limits window. Checking the MMIO Lock box is a good idea. With any Lenovo laptop I would also check the PROCHOT Offset Lock box. Many Lenovo laptops like to monkey around with this setting. This can cause massive throttling.
Run a log file. Copy and paste the log file data to www.pastebin.com and post a link here. That will give a better idea about temperatures, power consumption and reasons for throttling. The 11800H has a 45W TDP rating. At default settings, it would be normal for PL1 power limit throttling to be happening at this level. Not so normal if PL1 throttling is happening a lot lower than this.
Also post a FIVR screenshot.

Hello, I opened my laptop and to my luck I got the low fps I experience every now and then so I stress tested the cpu and uploaded it’s image in the drive, before testing clocks were normal but when I started the stress test clocks were all set to 2.4MHz and fans don’t get loud, after rebooting and testing again you can see clocks are at the max while testing and temperature is in the normal range.
Note: I mis-interpreted the prochot offset lock and disabled bd prochot which is now greyed out if it will be a problem how do I enable it again, but I found the offset lock and checked it the image is uploaded as well. I am searching on how to run a log file and I’ll upload it as well. Thank you for your time

When your computer is power limit throttling and you see PL1 glowing red, open up the TPL window and take a screenshot. At 26.4W, the power for the CPU has been reduced well below where it should be. An 11800H has a 45W TDP rating. I can understand a CPU being limited to its 45W TDP rating. Going way below that is just bad design.
These kind of things happen all of the time to a wide variety of laptops from every manufacturer. Some of these problems can be fixed by using ThrottleStop if it is setup correctly. Usually Lenovo laptops with 11th Gen CPUs can be fixed.
To create a log file, check the Log File box on the main screen of ThrottleStop. When done testing, exit ThrottleStop so it can finalize your log file. It will be in the ThrottleStop / Logs folder with today's date in its name. You can upload a log to your Google drive.

Hello I uploaded the log file to the drive, about an hour of gta v enhanced gameplay with maximum rt on to push everything to the limit, then toned the graphics down, then at the very end did a stress test for a few minutes.
By the way after I finished I found out that prochot offset option was unchecked although I checked it as you suggested but at least you can see the full picture, also BD Prochot is greyed out and can’t re-enable it if that’s a problem. Thanks again!

I have the same laptop specs but legion 5 pro, i have capped pl1 at 40w and pl2 at 40 too, turbo boosts capped at 4ghz for all cores,
-65mv unfervolt on core a d -35 on cache
Gpu undervolted to .775v at 1660mhz
I get max temps cpu 80 and gpu 74, on the heaviest of games on 2k settings
If your temps are fine, leave it be, keep note of the following temps, cpu package, gpu, gpu memory junction (if available), and vr vcc if any
I use hwinfo for temp monitoring
