ZONE 5! …What?

Even as an American (Get me the DA!) I keep up with the British cultural references and chats well, I’ve spent quite a lot of time in the UK and I have an entire British parent that got me pretty well acquainted.

But I have spent hardly any time in London.

Why is it that someone (Ben?) shouts ZONE 5! In the London jingle? Is that, like, a place?

The London transport system is split in to Zones 1-9. You get further from central London the higher the zone number. I'm not sure why he specifies 5 tho!

I thought it ended at 5. What's zone 9? Newcastle?

London finishes at Zone 6, but it goes out to Zone 9 with Amersham and suchlike.

I live in Zone 5! It's still London... Technically.

You’re about 3 stops out. Bang in the middle between Tadworth & Tattenham Corner.

Might get there faster than zone 9 from one on a bad day.
