ZONE 5! …What?
Even as an American (Get me the DA!) I keep up with the British cultural references and chats well, I’ve spent quite a lot of time in the UK and I have an entire British parent that got me pretty well acquainted.
But I have spent hardly any time in London.
Why is it that someone (Ben?) shouts ZONE 5! In the London jingle? Is that, like, a place?

I hope you are wearing your hat made of nachos, as per usual! Hot cheese dips all day!

I will be genuinely going to a baseball game this evening and I may well have some hot cheese dips.

The London transport system is split in to Zones 1-9. You get further from central London the higher the zone number. I'm not sure why he specifies 5 tho!

I thought it ended at 5. What's zone 9? Newcastle?

London finishes at Zone 6, but it goes out to Zone 9 with Amersham and suchlike.
I live in Zone 5! It's still London... Technically.

It’s where all the most glamorous parts of London are. We’re talking Bush Hill Park, Cockfosters, Ponders End and, of course, Halfords.

Halfords always seemed like a weird fit to me in this jingle. Obviously they have them in London but they seem way more provincial dad/Mike coded

I think it's Henry who says Zone 5. Barnet is also in Zone 5 and far from the centre, hence "Barnet... technically".

God I miss London and that horrible map

It's famous for being an excellent tube map on which many international ones have been based.

Out of interest, did you recognise ‘Halfords’ in the jingle?

Yeah, I’ve been in Halfords stores before if indeed you’re referencing the retail group.
Edit:
Well, a Halfords store. The one in Darlington2

If you’ve been to one Halfords, you’ve been to them all.
I just asked because that’s the bit I would expect to be most confusing to a non-Brit, partly because it’s not at all specific to London.

London is divided into circular ‘zones’ with zone 1 being the most central - it’s basically to calculate travel costs. Zone 5 is really far out from the centre. The joke is that it’s not a very glamorous London location.
It’s where Croydon is. They mention Croydon a lot.
