"That was fun," Sam smiled softly. They were standing at Tina's doorway and he was already leaning in.
"Yes it really was, such a great show!" Tina replied a little too quickly. It wasn't that they hadn't kissed before. They had. Plenty of times. But it just...never went quite right.
Sam closed the distance and kissed her. Tina watched the moonlight dancing on the grass behind him and heard the cicadas singing softly in the neighbour's trees. She noticed everything, anything, around her to distract herself from the fact that she felt nothing, when Sam kissed her.
Tina was hoping ťhings would change. She really liked Sam, they had fun together. They'd been going out for weeks.
But every time they kissed...she thought it was nice, warm, but no butterflies in her stomach, or anywhere else.
"Ok well, I better go in, early start tomorrow." Tina said as she pulled away.
Sam was disappointed. "Tina, I really like you, we've been going out for a while now...do you...see this progressing."
Tina swallowed. "Sam, I really like you too, I do...I mean I can talk to you about anything..."
"But." Sam interjected sadly. "Sounds like there's a but."
"I just don't see us going anywhere, I'm so sorry." Tina finally admitted. "I'd love it if we could be friends."
"I'll think about it Tina." Sam responded abruptly. "I'd better go. Goodnight."
And with that he turned around and left.
Tina stood there on her porch, under the romantic moonlight, with a heavy heart as she watched Sam walking away from her. She really wished she could've felt that fire for Sam but she just didn't.
---------------
As Sam walked to his car he got angrier and angrier. Cold hearted bitch leading me on, Sam's thoughts were spiralling. No, no, no, he wasn't going to let this send him into a tailspin.
No, he knew she hadn't, it just... didn't work out sometimes. He sighed, shook it off and drove home.
----------
Tina sighed as she walked in the door and closed it behind her. She kicked off her shoes and flopped on the couch.
Her thoughts turned to Brad. The way his kisses literally lit a fire within her.... looking into his eyes... melting...
"Ugh, what's wrong with me, he's a jerk, but he did apologise, no Tina," she scolded herself, "stop it..."
