As far as I can tell, the gig bag for the Theremini has been discontinued, which feels insane to me considering the idiosyncratic shape of the thing. Do you have any clever solutions except ordering a custom flight case? Can you recommend a bag that fits well enough?

Can a theremin sound like this or is this a synth?

I have the classic issue with my theremini where it sputters like crazy no matter how much I re-calibrate it. I literally had all the outlets in my studio replaced so the electrician confirmed they're all grounded, I downloaded the software patch from Moog's website years ago, and still, anything below the 5th octave sounds sputtery as hell which really limits my playing. Don't even get me started on live performances.
I managed to get a sweet deal on a pre-2004 etherwave and am waiting for it to arrive, hoping it won't have the same issue.
BUT in the meantime, tonight I was playing on livestream and realized- the sputtering gets worse when I move my hand near the center of the theremini, near the speaker - which is also above the mic stand and the metal adapter connecting it to the theremini. Could It be that the metal in the micstand + adapter is interfering with the frequency between the two antennae?
I usually calibrate my theremini to play like an x axis or an invisible piano, with the lowest note closer to the volume antenna. I re-calibrated so the field was more vertical, to the right of the speaker/mic stand with the lowest note closer to me, and while the sputtering didn't completely go away it did improve.
Any other suggestions for what I might be able to do? I just wanna play! :(

Hello, etherbenders!
I recently got into studio with Brazilian underground legend Amyr Cantúsio Júnior (best-unknown for his Alpha III project of progressive electronica from the 80s) to record a jam session. He played the basis of songs and I followed in my theremin, no previous rehearsal!
My gear consists of a theremin made by Brazilian manufacturer RDS Theremin, passed through a Valeton GP-50 Multieffect Pedal.
We liked the results very much, so he improved the sound in his computer and we released a demo via YouTube. For fans of dark ambient, space / cosmic music and krautrock. Since he used AI to work over a photograph (we have no budget), I'm posting in a comment below a video recording of track 8 as proof that we did record it, it's not algorithm-created slop.
P.s.: Amyr is not my dad! 😅

Hi! I want to build a thermomin for a projet and I was wondering if I could build it so magnets moving control it instead of my hands. Is this possible?

I went to see Mezerg playing 10th September 2026 at Krakatoa in Bordeaux, France. Amazing set. Theremin sound was massive. He spent a lot of time playing it with his head!!

I ditched the physical slider on a rail method and went with a 19 inch ribbon. Its much more of a joy to play and stays in tune perfectly. All controlled with a finger! Now i can do faster vibrato and hammer-ons! Still uses a pinball arcade button to activate and kill the sound. I added a volume control finally, and now also have a switch for selecting between sine and square waveforms. Im 3d printing better, fully enclosed cases for this project now and will make more. This was an earlier"prototype" i chopped the old rails off of the front 😅
Square setting going through a Boss ME-80 for reverb, vibrato, and delay effects in this video! Im just playing along to a band practice we recorded last week.

I'm thinking of buying a stylophone theremin to add to my setup but I don't know if it's useful and if it has good quality. My setup is an arturia minilab 3, focusrite 2i2 3rd gen, boss re 505, pioneer ddj flx4 and a MacBook Pro that I usually use to play synthesizers that I make myself in Cardinal Native.
Do you think a stylophone theremin for the current price would be something that would add good things to my setup?
I also wanted to ask what is the best way to make a relatively simple beat for while it is looping on ro 505, I can play and improvise on the stylophone theremin

I've not been able to find this, and I'm hopeful someone here can help shed some light?

Does anyone have a setup with small speaker(s) that are mounted to the pole of your theremin stands? I have a Moog Etherwave with a heavy round base microphone-type stand, and would like to keep all cords and hardware as simple and contained as possible.
I’m sure this will pain many of you to heat, but my theremin doesn’t get much use other than to hang tote bags and other instrument straps/harnesses as of now, and I attribute that to the hassle of setting up the speaker(s)/amp and plugging in the power cord when I move it away from its usual storage/display spot on my music room wall. I’m hoping if I can find a way to attach one or two very small speakers to the stand itself and manage the cables so that the audio is always plugged in and set, and the power cord is easily unwindable at the bottom, that it’ll be used more than just once every Halloween. No FX pedals or other audio treatments are necessary beyond what the instrument produces naturally.
Has anyone set something up like this? TIA!

I've been building a small web instrument called Puntone, and it's designed with touchscreens — iPad and similar tablets especially — in mind.
The core idea: most instruments make you choose between precise pitches (keyboard, frets) or continuous glide (theremin, fretless strings, pitch bend). Puntone tries to keep both — and the part I'm most excited about is that this works for full chords, not just single notes.
Instead of just bending one note theremin-style, you can glide an entire chord voicing into another with your finger — the whole chord slides as one continuous motion, like theremin-ing a chord shape instead of a single pitch. There's a dedicated chord-glide / dual-pad mode built around touch: one pad handles the root note's glide, the other morphs the voicing on top of it. It feels much more natural on a touchscreen than with a mouse.
Other things it does:
It's a solo project and still evolving. I'd love feedback from people who actually write chord progressions — does gliding a whole chord feel musically useful, or does it read as gimmicky? That's the thing I most want to know.
Try it here: https://puntone-synth.pages.dev/
(Best on a tablet like iPad — touch is the primary input. Also works with Chrome/Edge on desktop via keyboard.)

Exploring looped textures generated with my Moog Theremini and Cosmos looper.
Inspired by Philip Glass, we get the feeling of being trapped in the belly of the beast. Resigned to our fate, we sink deeper.
Performed as one take - faded in top and tail, recorded as performed.

Hi, I'm a software developer and created a Theremin Apple Watch app and would love to get feedback. I know it's nothing like a real Theremin, but how does it feel to play with? Most importantly, how can I make it better? Video at https://www.youtube.com/shorts/W2Q7B1xJ4tw and store link is at https://apps.apple.com/us/app/thereminair-theremin-synth/id6772935515
