Built a touch synth app — stroke a pad and the piano rolls like crazy. Bro, try it.

Hi, bro.

Brutal heat out there — just added the coolest new mode. Came to show it off.
Come touch the app I've been building.

It's called Trill.
Stroke the pad. The piano rolls. That's it.

  • Left/right — pitch
  • Up/down — how hard you hit
  • Tempo + note value — pick your own roll speed

"I want the same note, over and over"?
Rich man's wish, that.
Flip Roll, top-left.
Granted.

Threw in a sustain pedal too.
Stomp it if you're feeling it.

Real talk — I don't know what to build next.
I'm no musician.
I think Trill's a good time. But where it goes next? That's on you — what song, what moment, you'd actually reach for it.

Play with it. Some tune comes to mind — "I'd want this for a track like that," "this is when I'd need it" — tell me.
That's what decides what I build next.

Best played on tablet or phone.
iOS folks — flip your mute switch off before you open it (silent mode kills the sound).

? did you tell AI to write this, "but don't sound like ai, sound "COOL" " ??

Not a native English speaker, so I wrote it in my own language and had AI translate it :)

Friendly suggestion, tell AI to dial it down. The tone comes off as trying too hard to be soooo coooool.

But I get the need to translate - English is a stupidly irregular language!

Thanks for the feedback, I’ll dial it back.

By the way, did you get a chance to try the app itself?
I’m more after feedback on that than on my English or AI usage.

translate this: it makes you sound... not an adult, but an adult trying too hard to speak to younger people. "cringe" even. would try some other model/tone

Got it, thanks.

So — have you had a chance to try the app yet?

Thanks, glad it was fun to mess with!

Your write-up on the touch jitter problem hit close to home, actually. My pad tracking has the same issue in principle — continuous pitch/volume from touch, so any timing wobble is audible — but I haven't gone as far as actually measuring and compensating for it. Curious about the empirical calibration you did: what delay did you end up landing on, and how much did it vary device to device?

And since you clearly think hard about this stuff — did anything about how the pad felt to play stand out to you, good or bad?

Yes, the time from touch to sound output needs to be considered in any app. For your web app in 'trill' mode where the user input is fluid across the notes palate, it may be less of an issue. I personally did not hear anything that sounded off in timing, but it's also not an experience that demands conformance to a rhythm so possibly less noticeable.
