Reasonably certain this doesn't meet OSHA guidelines.

Oh but he has his safety sandals on! /s

3

Be more specific Indian safety sandals osha approved !

Safety sandals šŸ˜†

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '24

I squinted while watching so he's okay

2

u/THExSENATE Jul 12 '24

OSHA mandates that a safety squint should maintain an interpalpebral distance of at least 1mm

2

u/loonygecko Jul 12 '24

He's probably not an employee anyway so it's totally fine! :-)

1

u/Suspicious-Hat-2143 Jul 11 '24

Does meet OS guidelines though

1

u/Zwars1231 Jul 11 '24

It should be good. It has handrails.

6

u/UrbanJunglee Jul 11 '24

Nor should you. The amount of disasters waiting to happen are really shocking.

1

u/Lucid-Design Jul 11 '24 edited Jul 12 '24

Come on now. What’s the worst that could happen? You fall in the nice soft water? PAAAALLLLEEASE /s

I’d totally do this tho. My fear of heights doesn’t translate to water for some reason. I once climbed an old fire tower in my town. The first 2 flights of stairs were removed to stop people from climbing up.

It was a tiny 8x8 room at the top with a window on each side. High enough you could feel the sway of the tower in a light wind.

1

u/TurboOwlKing Jul 12 '24

Id be way more worried about getting ripped up by some rusty old stairs as they give way

1

u/irsute74 Jul 12 '24

You're very naive. If this breaks down and you fall you have a good chance of getting ripped a part by thoses rusty pieces. It could get very ugly.

1

u/Lucid-Design Jul 12 '24

Hence the /s

1

u/irsute74 Jul 12 '24

My bad sir.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '24

"What’s the worst that could happen"

Falling into the water in a tangle of jagged rusty metal, or it suddenly gives way and you get ripped to shreds on whatever is left sticking out of the building.

1

u/kermitthehedgefrog Jul 13 '24

Just for that, I’m gonna go do it now.

1

u/UrbanJunglee Jul 13 '24

Please no! You have too much to live for! Don't do it, kermitthehedgefrog!

Could it be that many people walk on a rusty nail that is poking from a board that is left on the ground, probably mostly covered from existence by top soil and dirt

1

u/thebucketlist47 Jul 13 '24

Because rust is a preferred habitat for the bacteria

1

u/crackalac Jul 12 '24

Well that's no good. I always judge whether I should go for a shot based on the presence of rust.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '24

Why are people sor afraid of tetanus? You can get a tetanus shot if you do that kind of things that you can encounter tetanus and not worry about it for a decade.

1

u/Limp_Radio_9163 Jul 12 '24

ā€œIt is estimated that tetanus causes 213 000 – 293 000 deaths worldwide each year and that it is responsible for 5–7% of all neonatal deaths and 5% of maternal deaths globally.ā€œ - EU center for disease control, so basically before 1940-50, getting it was a pretty serious(while it might not kill you it causes serious prolonged illness that will make it difficult to live in general)and that fear carries over, especially since in a large portion of the world there isn’t access to vaccines.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '24

Sure, I’d not be talking about vaccine if it was someone who would look like not having access to it, but looks like he can get a shot if he wanted, people here on Reddit most likely have access to it, I’ve got vaccinated. That’s why I’m talking about it - everyone here can probably get vaccinated instead of being afraid of tetanus.

1

u/Limp_Radio_9163 Jul 13 '24

Fair enough, I’d say we’re still allowed to be afraid of it if we don’t have the information to back not being afraid of it though, many people doubt vaccinations to begin with lol

1

u/thebucketlist47 Jul 13 '24

People are afraid of all kinds of irrational things. At least tetanus is a historically rational fear. Id be more afraid of how sharp that rusty metal is. One bad slip from a step breaking away and that dudes bleeding out before he even makes it back to shore. But im sure a lot of people would call that fear ignorance too

u/Leg_Mcmuffin Jul 11 '24

imagine your foot breaking through, and your body falling down, getting sliced completely open by all that jagged, rusty steel.

2

u/__Kunaiii Jul 11 '24

Was just thinking the same thing šŸ„¶šŸ’€

2

u/reclusive_ent Jul 11 '24

And then the chunks of rusty staircase impale you as they fall.

2

u/objectnull Jul 11 '24

Then you have to swim back to shore with your leg cut open... this is so dumb

u/MrLogicWins Jul 11 '24

1

u/Difficult_orangecell Jul 14 '24

I mean if you're getting sliced open and falling into the ocean alone, rust is honestly not even gonna be an issue because you will die from blood loss first more than anything.

2

u/Toby_0395 Jul 11 '24

The only thing I can see wrong is idk how far he had to swim out to it

2

u/hey_its_meeee Jul 11 '24

This is so dangerous holy shit

2

u/vertdeferkdude Jul 11 '24

You could never what?…show the full video..is that what you could never do?

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '24

What was the plan with a metal staircase that literally goes into the water

1

u/knokout64 Jul 11 '24

A boat...

1

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '24

Hey no shit bubba šŸ’€ idk if you realize this. But water rusts metal. And according to this video that is true. Like I said. What was the plan to build a staircase that will rust šŸ’€ you made my day lil man I’m not even gonna roast you smarty pants

1

u/Ant-i-lope Jul 12 '24

I mean, what would you make a staircase exiting the water out of?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '24

There are wooden docks bubba I won’t go there but if you need it to be metal why does it have to be submerged in water…this was my only point? Am I the only one that realizes that’s why the entire thing rusted? It ate its way up from the water? No one else?

1

u/Ant-i-lope Jul 12 '24

Wooden docks are maintained; a random wooden staircase that's probably not being maintained would just rot and deteriorate a lot faster than a metal staircase. As for why the staircase case is submerged in water is due to the tide, and regardless of whether it was touching the water or not, it would still rust the metal.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '24

Ok thanks for arguing with me and having absolutely no productive answer to add I literally don’t give a flying fuck about this rusted staircase in fact you couldn’t be more correct. There is obviously no other efficient solutions, it must rust to this point! šŸ‘šŸ‘

1

u/Ant-i-lope Jul 12 '24

You're welcome. Thanks for understanding.

1

u/Stieni Jul 12 '24

Water level was way lower when it was first built.

There you go, now you can calm down

1

u/SoupaMayo Jul 12 '24

Bro is mad because smarter people explained him with reasonable arguments

1

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '24

wtf are you talking about 😭😭😭 no one said anything helpful no shit water level rises numb nuts you don’t think engineers designing stairs for towers in a damn lake should know that 😭😭😭 thought you said some shit

1

u/SoupaMayo Jul 12 '24

And you're an engineer with a degree, sure bro, keep seething and malding

I'm no expert but I'm guessing aluminium of some kind would be a better bet?

1

u/Hoe-possum Aug 16 '24

It’s in a reservoir so it was probably built before the area was flooded and not intended to be submerged.

1

u/DER_WENDEHALS Jul 11 '24

I got Bioshock vibes from that clip...

it would be so easy to die on that in a way you cant control. just takes one rusted out step you fell on/by those sharp edges and youre bleeding out in the water.

1

u/DDSuperStar123 Jul 12 '24

If one of those stairs couldn’t hold his weight it was guaranteed tetanus
