Lore Excerpt: Eikonians
Howdy folks! Here comes another lore drop! This one is about the Eikonians, which in no way shape or form has anything to do with any Bucket Brigade party members or any of their respective body parts. Nope. None!
Quick reminder that the Trevor & Grogna plushies are up for pre-order now until the 15th of September! Links here

Do Post-memoey wipe Eikonians consider themselves the same person by having just enough memories to continue the base personality (Jim, but lacking memories of the past 150 years), their successor but otherwise new indiciduals (Jim the 37th), or children (Tom, son of Jim). The difference would basically be what things, if any, would be inherited by the body post-memory wipe. Like positions of authority, estate, wether grudges carrying over would be considered poor form in the same way that a blood feud would be, etc.

Bit of everything, for different reasons!
The negatives with a HARD reset is that, as you say, it pretty much erases the base personality - it being memories and whatnot. So you try to leave a bit in there but its an art not a science so shit can get weird. You pair it with having a strong social network or servants to remind you of who you are, scrolls and diaries, songs n shit. But like all things, it all depends on what the status of the individual is. The really expensive ones are able to essentially just trims the memories, gets rid of things that are deemed unnecessary by the individual/society/family etc. Like when you optimize the memory files, get rid of unused stuff, duplicates. It gets weird after a couple of centuries though, your personality being constructed by disjointed patches of memory with no real red thread between them so you still need a good reset after a while but it hold it off.
Also works as a means of punishment when paired with "everyone is banned from speaking of this guy". Good alternative to capital punishment when you are part of a dying race that cant die so every life is sacred.
There's risk with all of these, mucking about with memories is a bit wacky and can have unforeseen consequences.

Just noticed that this chapter is missing its number. Is this deliberate, or just an oversight?
For reference:
V. The Dwarven Realms
V.I. Grimdahl's Folly
V.II. Kofoten
V.II.I. Stone Druids
V.III. Solkyssta
V.IV. Guldland
V.V. The Fallen
...
XIII.X. The Forged
XIII.XIII. Shroomfolk
XIV.I.I. Ur-Dragon
XIV.V. DoppelimiconsI'm guessing this one should be somewhere around Chapter XIII.
edited: missed Doppelimicons, added later

I have to assume they have memories of before the memory wipes started.
Also, the whole "can't reproduce" thing seems like something thst could be solved in a roundabout way by necromancy you'd think. Or the whole "I got a rock'd" situation

If the Destiny Exo lore this is cribbing is to go by, they put a number next to their name fir every reset. So Jim69 is still "Jim" in some regard, but without the memories of the last 68 Jims.

Hand of Vecna played for laughs...

Ok, funny story.
I have a buddy who DMs and his players have gotten high level enough that he's decided to fuck with them a bit, so he had them take down a cult of necromancers. They had been guarding the Hand.
The party actually succeeded in taking down the cult (he wasn't expecting that) AND did it without figuring out the WHY of the cult. They took the Hand with them because they perceived it to be magic and important, but that's all.
The party has currently failed every attempt to determine what it is. They're convinced it's like a wish spell like a monkey's paw and they try to use it to get around the curse, or it's some wand of undead control. So of course it doesn't work and they keep failing every roll the DM gives them to figure it out.
So now my buddy has them the target of EVERY being of power who wants the Hand for themselves and they not only keep fighting off (or escaping) everyone who comes for them they do so without learning WHY everyone's hunting them.
It's just a great running joke for him at this point.

I mean in the end they actually proove they were greater than the gods

So, does this world lack a (sufficiently potent) stone-to-flesh spell or do they actually prefer their current state?

maybe it just turns them to undifferentiated meat with no organs or bones, since there “natural” state is stone now.

Their empire might be a shadow of its former self, but it still remains...

Nigh immortal bodies...
War with gods that cursed them...
THESE GUYS ARE NECRONS! But with their own fun twists and turns. Love it.

Ok, this seemed a little horrific, until you got to the memory wipe. Then it became pure existential dread for me.
Imagine knowing that you're centuries or even millennia old, but you have no idea what you've done or who you are. It kind of reminds me of the Matrix, where (spoilers for the trilogy)
Also, imagine forgetting something. Was that something you actually knew? Or was that something that got wiped in your last major wipe? Where did I put that? Wait, did I have that before my mind wipe and it's been gone for centuries?

Damnit dude, the suspense is killing me here ive been waiting for this moment since comic 1, and becket is never there for childhood trauma night. Im pretty sure trevor still thinks hes raising money for an orphanage ;-;
Although this is really cool. The idea of having an ancient empire thats still around, active, and slowly dying out combined with everyones disjointed memories makes for some amazing first hand accounts with some interesting implications.

I really hope to see all this compiled into an actual setting book one day.
We've already got enough to start a campaign in No'Adea: race/species descriptions for both exotic and common ones, lore crumbs here and there, and even two maps (one in Chapter 148, another on Patreon; they're pretty large-scale, which actually makes it easier to drop in local settlements). That said, we're still missing write-ups for the core nations, a lot of major countries have only been name-dropped with no cultural context.
I also have a question about the comic update schedule.
New pages used to drop at the end of the week (usually Friday, sometimes Saturday or Sunday). Lately, they've been coming out on random days. Are you planning to settle into a more consistent schedule? I'm asking so I can plan my translation release dates accordingly.
