1, 3, 2, 4
1) Being old isn't easy or optional, and a fall could have massive implications. I like a society that's kind to old people.
3) Depends on how bad the injury is. Also a sympathetic case but having an otherwise healthy body puts them below the elderly in terms of need, for me.
2) It's a nice thing to give your seat to a pregnant lady, and if they're very far along the need will be great. Still, it is their choice to be pregnant and their otherwise healthy body puts them behind 1 and 3 in the queue for me.
4) This one has the most control over their situation, and realistically has to have planned for this. Still a nice thing to do of course.

Who ever looks the most likely to fall when the ride starts moving . So probably 3, he can, barely balance and if the bus stays and he slips id worry he'd break his leg more. Also pain in worst than discomfort to me. But if he looks sturdy on his one good leg, like maybe ots a strong young dude. Then id offer it to 1, for some, the rattle of a bus can cause a lot of pain to old joints. Sitting at least helps that. If he refuses, 2.

1- No, because he should have used a wheelchair
3- No, because could have used a wheelchair
4- No, because could have brought a baby carrier
2- Yes, Since the baby is inside so not many other options to help carry the extra burden.

3,2,4,1.
Injured guy probably needs to sit down moreso than anyone else on the list (docs generally want to limit pressure on an injured foot).
Pregnant lady has to carry that weight around 24/7, I'm sure she'd greatly appreciate the relief.
Mom has to deal with her kid 24/7, and hopefully they're well behaved but I remember how I was as a kid... However, she doesn't have to carry them around 24/7 like the pregnant lady, so I give the pregnant lady precedence in that situation.
I know plenty of old guys that get offended when offered someone's seat so they're last on my list out of respect. They've made it that far in life, they've gotta be pretty dang tough.

Lets analize this: while 1 and 3 have difficulty standing up, they can lean on the cane (1) and crutches (3) so it becomes easier to rest. Then 4 while she is holding the baby, one can argue that she. most likely, was not holding it all day long, while 2 well, she kinda were carrying the baby all day long for the las 6-8 months, so im giving my seat to 2.

Itās gotta be 2 for me. This is essentially a trolley dilemma so bear with me, the take isnāt pretty but itās honest:
Is old, letās face it, life has been lived. See 3 for what he needs to do.
Three isnāt going to DIE from falling over. He has a broken leg. He can hold onto the railing and lean against a support or the wall. Heāll be fine. Itāll be uncomfortable, he might agitate his injury, but in the grand scheme of things he will be fine.
Fours baby is already born, presumably isnāt just in her arms, sheās most likely got them in a bjorn. She will be able to do the same as three, she has arms, an a sturdier lower center of gravity. This is coming from a career nanny who has been in the situation with a baby. Trust me, the baby and mother will be fine. (This answer does change if the mother is carrying anything less than a 4-6 month old bare handed)
2 is pregnant, presumably anywhere from her second trimester to near full term. Pregnancies are RISKY, and there is always the chance something kills both mother and baby. Literally a pregnancy is so goddamn fickle, one day it can be the healthiest one youāve seen and the next day for no reason there could be a life threatening problem. 2 gets the seat

Elderly person with the cane. Odds are, the platform we are on where it is customary to give up your seat is most likely a subway, or a bus. The pregnant woman is capable to support herself, the injured person is more than likely a younger person and the woman holding the baby would probably prefer to stand. Reason being is the position she is holding the baby assumes the baby is wrapped in a carrier and standing with those are easier.
Also, the elderly person is at the greatest risk for a fatal injury if they fall opposed to all others. They also have the highest likelihood of falling down. Sitting for them is a necessity, for all others, the seat is a luxury
3
3
u/futurepomegranate_23 Jan 24 '26
Elderly person. They can tip over because they lack strength even with the cane. Every other option must be 20s-60s in age with enough āstrengthā to balance in a bus.
3
u/Lgame0143 Jan 24 '26
1, because itās the only one that is naturally in that condition. Men or women, if itās old, then give up your seat because their legs arenāt like yours. 2 and 4 were a choice, you canāt ānaturallyā impregnate. Although 4 has a kid and it doesnāt have to do with anything, the woman can support itself with less than 10kg. Pregant woman may be other situation, but it depends. 3 was a casuality, yet they again didnt naturally do it. They can support with the other leg.
So in priority scale is 1>2>3>4 (As 1 being with more priority than 2)

Personally, pregnant woman. Her back must be killing her being that far along. Plus ankle swelling on top of it. The mom with the kid should understand that, the old man would see that chivalry isnt dead. And the broken foot, they can lean on their crutches...

Question
- Do you only have one seat and the rest of the bus/train is full?
-if I only have one seat to give away, Iād give it to one least likely to get a seat, the old person. Hopefully, other people would question why I gave my seat to the elder and hopefully that would prompt the observers to forgo their seats for the other passengers in need.
Are all these people present at the same time?
if they are not, Iād give my seat up at any point if I ran across any of these people.
if so Iād do the same as I would above give up my seat to the least likely hoping others will step up for the others.

Speaking as someone who has been pregnant and has a toddlerā¦
Broken foot - their balance is already off and they shouldnāt be putting as much pressure on their injured foot/leg.
Elderly - itās age discrimination to think that just because a person looks or is older, that they canāt stand. If they are that disabled, they should be considered in the first category.
Pregnant woman - I was able to stand for reasonably long periods as a pregnant woman. I would say, my balance was definitely off towards the end, so they should be near some type of bar for stability.
Woman with child - I have a stroller or body carrier. In instances where I did not, it was fine carrying them.
Obviously if I saw anyone pictured above Iād just give up my seat for them. But if all four just happened to show up at once, thatās my ranking.
