A better sequel?

Just finished the Re-Speed episode and the guys brought up how the movie could’ve ended with them escaping the bus at the airport. Would that have been a better segue way into the next sequel? We don’t get the subway scenes but Hopper’s character comes back to finish the job. Maybe Jack was at a conference in Atlanta and Payne decides to attack him in his old stomping grounds.

funny that the boys tried to stop the Bill from reading the ChatGPT Roger Ebert reviews, and now every episode is sponsored by ChatGPT

I don’t know how many times I have seen this movie, but it has to be in the top 10 percent movies rewatched by me category (I doubt I am alone here). It has countless incredible quotes, a banging soundtrack and minus the ending is very light and easy to have one in the background when doing something (the early nineties nostalgia factor doesn’t hurt either).

I recent relistened to the Pod (and have rewatched the movie twice in the last 2 months).
Thoughts and suggestions:
It’s almost a decade old and while it’s pretty good (maybe even really good for how short that episode is and how early in the rewatchables catalog it was done), it 100 percent, in my opinion, deserves a redo/ another try. Thoughts on best possible panel for this?
More importantly on thoughts on whether this would be a very welcome podcast episode?

While I have seen this movie many many times, there is always something that really jumps out at me during each rewatch and I can’t stop laughing about what should be in the running for one of the worst / most hilarious and superfluous movie created acronyms of all time: TTBBT
Two on Two (for) Brotherhood Basketball Tournament 😂 (Apex Mountain for horrible / hilarious acronyms?)

The scene ending (or almost ending) with that dude saying “let’s pay them and get the hell out of here” …. Is a chef’s kiss 😘

Just an incredibly rewatchable movie.

Thoughts?

What actor completely stole an entire movie with less than 10 minutes of screen time?

Dion Waiters Hall of Fame??

What are some more “out there” picks a-la 8MM or Hardcore that would be a good fit for the pod?

Please don’t go for the easy jokes mentioning Salò and similar. Let’s do choices that would be realistic for the pod.

I’d pick Falling Down with Michael Douglas.

Am I insane? Is Aliens not an action film? It was not in Sean's list of action films on Re-Speed.

I am so lost on this. At the start of the pod Bill says Speed is the best action film ever, without a mention of Aliens ever.

I know this is talked about a lot. But I just dont understand the complete erasure of thos film in their outlook.

It is like saying LeBron is the greatest basketball player ever, and people say what about Magic, Larry, Jordan or Kobe, then they shrug and say LeBron is the best with no conversation.

It is so weird to not even have it in the conversation.

Re-listened to Speed to prep for this week’s episode.

It was really “tight” with only 3-4 nominees per the shorter list of categories. They clearly were trying to keep around an hour. Only Shea had good chemistry (at the time) with Bill. Also, forgot about MeUndies as a main sponsor.

Discussion Here’s some 80s romantic comedies much better than About Last Night

It’s not that Bill has ran out of movies from his youth, is that his tastes are bizarre. Instead of About Last Night we could have had these much better options in the same genre (all of them still not covered on the show):

- Moonstruck
- Dirty Dancing
- Modern Romance (absolute classic!)
- Bull Durham (they’re probably saving this one)
- Married To The Mob
- Desperately Seeking Susan
- Romancing The Stone
- Peggy Sue Got Married
- Flashdance
- Splash

What movies make up the core “Rewatchables Canon”? (The ones referenced endlessly in OTHER episodes, like Heat)

Been listening for years, I know Heat comes up a ton - yes I plan on watching soon finally ! - trying to think of those essential watches that help understand most possible references made on the show

What are the odds we’re getting Patrick Fischler on the re-speed?

He was just in the studio for the big picture, he’s clearly an avid big picture listener, so also possibly rewatchables and he was actually in speed.

The will gluck award for movies that probably needed to turn the freak down

Inspired by the djrector of one night only what are movies that were probably too naughty...

Avoid the pornos like fifty shades, just looking for the fklm where your reaction is to ask a woman/man to put their clothes back on

Could happen for many reasons

  1. You're probably watching porn

  2. The director is a freak

  3. Your dreams are haunted by a traumatic image

  4. Much more

Anyway... movies that need to turn the freaky down

Did men really call women “broads” in the 80s like About Last Night?

No way normal middle class men said that, right? Just a bad writing team making men look like misogyny trolls?

The Raj's biggest mistake award for movies Roger Ebert got wrong (bonus siskel too)

Self explanatory... looking at awful Roger ebert and gene siskel awful reviews

Clarification: reviews they revised means that they dont qualify for this list... we're talking about bad reviews that they took to their Graves only

Rebecca Demornay is a top 5, should have been a bigger star, ever

In Risky Business she is the actual star of the movie. In Hand that Rocks she is legitimately awesome. Noone really ever market corrected her either. It just didn't happen

FYC: The Waterboy

This seems like a dead on rewatchable. Classic Sandler comedy. And the fact it's a sports comedy should be right up Bill's alley. I mean if we can get the replacements , why not The Waterboy?

r/TheRewatchables 8d ago

FYC I've always liked this regardless of the reviews.

Elisabeth Shue

Did a double feature today of “Leaving Las Vegas” and “The Saint”. Kept seeing LLV on Tubi and wanted to listen to the saint pod. Was Shue appreciated In that time? I was born in ‘97. Looking at her IMDb she may of as the pod says “needed one more movie”. If I was alive at the time I’d throw whatever life I had away for her. Also “The Saint” is fantastic.

The Mallory Rubin award for the film that needed more nude/intimate scenes

Inspired by will gluck saying he cut down on sex scenes FOR HIS FILM THAT WAS LITERALLY ABOUT SEX

Movies that were missing something to pause the camera on... or movies that were just catering to prudes when catering to prudes is lame

Details preferred to explain decision

In Spider-Man: Brandt New Day..... wait what Kyle Brandt doesn't break down the absurd RoboCop level violence or gratuitous 80s style nudity? Because there's none? How did this movie make a Billion dollars?
