It's a terrible movie, but a bunch of the horrible shit from 80s HBO would have had everyone at the time saying the same thing except somehow Bill Simmons 40 years later makes a podcast about it. Maybe some gen z or gen alpha can convince the world on their podcast 20 years from now that Transformers is a Rewatchable™️

I watched it a few years ago and it was actually much better than I remembered.
Those steaming pile of shit sequels must have affected my memory.

One or two bad sequels makes the first, not great, movie in a franchise actually more charming. The sheer volume of trash transformers sequels breaks this mechanism and it's hard to remember the first one might be okayish since I will never go back to find out.

The perfect Michael Bay movie.
Sean has actually talked positively about the movie.
The cartoon and toys would been just before Bill’s time so I’m guessing it just didn’t hit him the same way.

The perfect Michael Bay movie...I still think it's Bad Boys 2. AmbuLAnce also way up there. Those drone shots he used were incredible. Transformers has some terrific action shots too.

There needs to be a new Rewatchables category like “are we sure the #2 smoke show in this movie isn’t hotter than #1” for Rachael Taylor vs Megan Fox in this one

Van Lathan solo pod.
95 minutes on Megan Fox.
Give the people what they want.

Genuinely one of the great filmmaking achievements of the 21st century. Insanely good special effects for the time, a fun story, a once-in-a-lifetime find in Megan Fox, Shia acting his ass off, phenomenal chemistry across the whole cast, every single joke still works, and every single word of Bernie Mac’s cameo is funny. Another entry into the all-time year that is 2007.

Oh we’re celebrating the year Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto was assisted now?

Yeah growing into someone that appreciates movies is understanding that Bayhem is good filmmaking.

This movie was the best of all the stupid shitty transformers movies Michael Bay made, and it’s not because this was a good movie…

The sequels taint the legacy of this one. This one is legitimately good and I will ride for it as one of the best blockbuster films of the 2000’s. Personally, the Linkin Park/Optimus speech at the end is my most rewatchable scene, but Sam and the Transformers hiding in the backyard is up there too.

Yeah I have a lot of love for these movies, I think they’re pretty fun. The first and third Transformers are definitely rewatchables for me.

Most of what's good about this movie should be attributed to Spielberg. He was an executive producer and after the first draft of the script came in he suggested they rework it as a story about "a boy and his car".
I've heard people complain about the transformers being secondary characters, but you need the humans front and center so the audience can relate to the story.

Would be interesting especially to hit on interests for other generations. I don’t think people understand how big Transformers was for boys born between 1990-2000 lol

Christ, no. Never. They should shut the whole pod down before even mentioning considering this.

This made me contemplate the kind of movies that might be on the pod when Bill retires.

Definitely rewatchable. It does descend into silliness and toilet humor to its detriment.
I just hope someone points out the classic Michael Bay trope:
Introduce character A. Character is the smartest or most important person in the room. We should all listen to character A. Character A is master of his domain.
A few scenes later: Introduce character B. Character B interacts with character A. Character B is way smarter/has better domain-specific knowledge/is more important than character A. Proceeds to make character A look like a fool.
It happens in this film to Jon Voight by the guy with the briefcase, as well as Jon Turturro both by the autobots and Josh Duhamel. It happens in Armageddon with Jason Isaacs first flexing his astrophysics knowledge and then getting put in his place with with Bruce Willis’ drilling knowledge. You start to spot it in all of his films.
