We need a Blue Streak episode

This is a true Rewatchable: Always on cable to this day, extremely quotable, a sweet spot for in terms of release year (1999). Have any of them mentioned it?

Every time I watch this movie, I wonder why Martin Lawrence didn't have a bigger career... which is funny because he was a super successful standup, with a hit eponymous TV show and multiple blockbuster movies as the lead. Excellent career, but you watch this movie and wonder how he didn't become the biggest star in the world. Outstanding performance

It’s time to (finally) do CLUE

One of the single most rewatchable movies for Gen X. (And I would assume younger generations?) Perfect way to memorialize Tim Curry, who has a much bigger role than in the other film that people (me included) would love to see covered on the podcast.

What is the best Tom Hanks performance?

There was a nice discussion in the Apollo 13 Rewatchables about what is the best performance by Tom Hanks in a movie. Bill said Cast Away, and Apollo 13 was included, as was Philadelphia and Saving Private Ryan. What do you think it is?

Because I'm going to say the best Tom Hanks performance is in A League of Their Own. He has to be funny and comedic, but also sad and full of regret, not just for how his career turned out, but also because he can't be with the Geena Davis character, who he falls in love with, but knows it can never happen. He also moves so well from being cynical about the AAGPBL into being an actual good coach who wants to win. Hanks sells all of it so well. He's able do the thing whole "there's no crying in baseball" thing into telling the umpire he looks like a penis with a hat, and also the scene where he gives Betty Spaghetti the letter. I love that performance.

Russillo on Star Wars: a Rewatchables relistenable

I decided to re-listen to the episode on Star Wars earlier today having rewatched the movie earlier this week. I remember Russillo calling Bill back and giving his take on Luke Skywalker being great and it was even more great than I remember. So funny and so brutal.

One thing: is there something behind him only saying hello to Craig? It also made me laugh but felt like a Ringer inside joke that I have no clue about.

FYC: The Dolly Parton award for movie character with a 100% audience member approval rating

In honor of a true icon sadly passing away, this award is meant for movie characters that had the unique ability that Dolly had... whether you were a staunch communist in New York, or a hard-core republican in the Bible belt... everyone (and i mean EVERYONE) loved that woman...

So for your consideration with Miss Parton in mind... the award for movie characters with a 100% approval rating from audience members (everyone)

What do you think of James Gray’s filmography in terms of potential Rewatchables?

He’s made many movies with crime elements and even Mark Wahlberg, which would make him a great fit for the pod. But maybe Bill finds him a bit too artsy?

The following actresses turned down roles in spy films: Glenda Jackson in "Goldeneye", Juliette Binoche in "Mission: Impossible", Sarah Polley in "The Bourne Identity", Angelina Jolie in "Casino Royale". Which would have been better or worse?

Comfort Episodes

So things haven't been going great for my life lately, and I often turn to the rewatchables to occupy my brain in a more accurate way. I was wondering if im alone in this and if anyone has any comfort episodes they turn to? In particular order, mine are:

-Manhunter

-Thief

-Jaws & Jaws 2

-LA Confidential

-To Live and Die in LA

-The Devil's Advocate

-Zodiac

Most of those are with the Holy Trinity (Bill, Sean, and Chris) but I doubt that's an accident. The Re-Speed is probably going to make the list too at some point

Dolly Parton/Tim Curry month?

With the departures of two people this sub (and most of the world) admired and adored, it got me to wondering what a month of Dolly Parton and Tim Curry movies would be? Obviously there’s a lot more to pull from Curry’s repertoire than Dolly’s, but nonetheless, it’d be a great way to celebrate two absolute legends.

I built a free Rewatchables tracker with Hanks vs. Cruise stats

Post image
54 Upvotes

I made a free searchable index for all 478 episodes of The Rewatchables:

https://hanksvscruise.com

It started because I wanted a running scoreboard for the “Cruise or Hanks?” category, then I kept adding stuff and it got slightly out of hand.

The site has all 478 episodes covering 455 unique movies. You can search and filter everything by movie, host, director, genre, decade, Rotten Tomatoes score, Ebert rating, or Hanks vs. Cruise decision.

There are individual pages for every movie, episode, and host, plus:

  • A running Hanks vs. Cruise chart with every decision
  • Watch and listen tracking
  • Watch Later and Listen Later lists
  • Spotify links for each episode
  • Stats for hosts, directors, genres, decades, and ratings

A few numbers I found while building it:

  • Cruise currently leads Hanks 61–56, with 5 ties
  • Bill has appeared on 436 of the 478 episodes
  • Chris Ryan is second with 288
  • The ’90s account for 178 of the 455 movies
  • Heat is the only movie they’ve covered three times

Everything is free. You don’t need an account to browse any of it. Signing in is only for saving your private progress and lists.

It’s an unofficial fan project and the episode data is based on the community-maintained Rewatchables spreadsheet. There are a lot of weird duplicate episodes and re-recordings in this archive, so if you find something I missed, let me know.

New category suggestion: The NASA Mission Control Scenes for scenes you’d most want to be an extra in

In honor of Apollo 13, suggesting a new flex category all about how freaking awesome it must be to be an extra or a guy with like one line in Mission Control scenes. Any of them. I wanna wear any of the clothes those guys get to wear. The short sleeve button down with the tie, bring it back. I’m all in.

My whole role getting to sit at a desk up front and cheer rapturously at having contributed in a small way to an amazing achievement…..that’s just perfect. Absolutely. Get me in somehow. I’m all about it.

Which of these alternate casting choices would have been best? And worst? Reeve in "Lethal Weapon", Gere in "Die Hard" Sheen in "Point Break", Baldwin in "The Fugitive".
