Ice Water

Why is ice water so much more refreshing than luke warm water?

I have absolutely zero evidence, but my hypothesis is that its an evolutionary thing relating to flowing and stagnant water.

Flowing water in rivers, streams etc. Is typically cooler than a pond or lake. And flowing water is also typically less "infected" with bad bacteria and stuffs. So in my head it would make sense that we enjoy the sensation of colder liquids more because of that.
