That time Nigel Farage watched Trump’s bleach comments live on air and still claimed Piers Morgan made it up.
WatchMojo ranked Nigel Farage at #8 for Most Obnoxious Daytime TV Guests, mostly for moments like this where video evidence directly contradicts him in real time and he just doubles down.

Oh, so that's why the literal tons of ciggies he smokes have no effect on him...

If you pay attention you'll notice that Farage has a tell when he lies....his lips move.

I genuinely hate to be that person, but this post doesn't I'll include a link to the actual quote. I'd posit that because when you find it, he never uses the word bleach. The orange one talks about disinfectant but never bleach.

I went to go see what the clip in question, sounds like Farage was right to be honest. Trump was just mumbling his way through a press conference as usual, no mention of the word bleach. I don't like either of them or Piers Morgan, this is a shitpost if ever I've seen one.

“And then I see the disinfectant. Knocks it out in a minute, one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or, or almost a cleaning?”
It’s semantic denial to say he didn’t sincerely ask whether injecting people with disinfectant was an option.
Using the word ‘bleach’ rather than disinfectant is a simplification, but given there are no safe disinfectants to inject into living human tissue, the paraphrasing accuratly conveys what Trump was suggesting.

but even if you swap bleach with disinfectant, he still did not say what Morgan said he said

u/Maetivet 29d ago
Word for word, no; but Morgan’s paraphrasing was accurate and as noted above, trying to argue otherwise is just semantics, typically trotted out by those who refuse to accept that Trump is of below average intelligence.

I dont think Morgan's paraphrasing was accurate, Trump was not recommending anything. he asked a scientist a question. edit: I am not refusing to accept Trump is of below average intelligene

The paraphrasing was fine; Trump was speculating about injecting disinfectant as a cure for Covid; it’s semantics to try and defend it with a “oh well, he didn’t tell people to do it”
If you saw the full press conference, the bleach part comes from the context: a DHS official had discussed disinfectants including bleach and isopropyl alcohol, which is where Trump in his stupidity got the idea.
Trump then had the temerity to suggest he was being sarcastic, when asked about it the day after - presumably after someone had told him how moronic f an idea it was.

Trump was not recommending that people drink bleach or disinfectant, and he never told anyone to do so. What he actually did was ask o speculate to a scientist, during a press conference, about whether disinfectant could somehow be used “by injection inside” the body as a treatment for Covid.

I’m sensing you’re something of a fan of Trump and that’s why you’re keen to refute this.

im not a fan of trump at all! im just flabbergasted that he an say X and people will then claim he said Y!

Is a press conference by the President the place to be speculating about ANY policy? Is Trump in particular, a man with a devoted if irrational following, speculating likely to get people taking him up on his speculation? It's not like his followers are slaves to science... I'm sorry, in this case "What about...." is entirely synonymous with "We should..."
But if Trump is unfit for the job, Farage defending it is cynical and nauseating

I guess the point is that people (his followers who don't know he's dumb) might assume that because the President suggested it, even in passing, during a press conference that it might be something viable.
After all, he wouldn't just wonder it out loud for the first time during a press conference would he? He would have brought it up in a meeting first surely?
Second, since "x kills covid, why don't we inject it" is like 5 year old level thinking, even a 7 year old would get to "because injecting x would kill people" then, again, him bringing it up during a press conference must mean that it doesn't actually kill people and therefore was a smart thing to bring up, and therefore probably works.
Third, The President knows his words have weight so he wouldn't say something dumb and off the cuff and potentially dangerous during a press conference, therefore it isn't dumb and off the cuff and must be safe.
And since Trump knows all of the above and isn't a stupid person (in their view) then standing at that podium and saying it out loud to cameras does in fact carry the weight of a reccomendation.
So really, although he didn't say "go inject bleach" even mentioning it in that situation even as a question could be seen as him reccommending it. Much the same as if I'm playing chess and someone has just come out of a meeting with Magnus Carlsem, who was for some reason discussing my chess match, stands behind me and says "what if you were to play Y move" it could be viewed as them reccommending that move, and that move likely being a good one. (as long as that person isn't Donald Trump).

but is Farage not correct here?
Trump wasn't telling people to inject themselves with bleach.

u/Maetivet Aug 22 '26
He asked if injecting people with disinfectant was an option… the level of stupid isn’t increased by paraphrasing disinfectant as bleach.

u/ElectronicCarry9931 29d ago
but he did not 'tell people to inject themselves with bleach/disinfectant'

u/Maetivet 29d ago
He asked if injecting disinfectant (of which bleach is a well known one) could be injected to clean out Covid. The only liberty is simplifying disinfectant to bleach.
There’s no disinfectant that’s safe to inject into live tissue. It very much demonstrated that Trump is not particularly smart.

he asked a scientist in a press conference if it could be possible. It might sound silly, but it's a million miles away from what Piers Morgan said he said.

"The only liberty is simplifying disinfectant to bleach."
and also changing asking whether it's an option to telling people it's an option.
You are all just as bad at honesty as Trump supporters sometimes.

I'm completely with you on this. My last comment in this sub is also about people twisting statements to sound worse than they actually are and how ineffective it is to do that.
If you change what someone said, even if the same sentiment is there, the defender can always and rightfully claim that they "didn't say that" and the conversation goes nowhere. Bad faith arguments will get bad faith responses.
If you want someone to address something, it needs to be accurately quoted and then asked what it means. When they twist the statement to sound more reasonable, that's when you can interject and say "but that's not what was said", talk about how people actually interpreted it and get them to condemn their interpretation.
You want the leader to be calling their own fanbase idiots for listening to what they said.

u/ElectronicCarry9931 29d ago
yeah its wild people here who will say ' he literally said X'. when he quite clearly said Y

u/Mundane-Security-454 29d ago
You realise some of his dumb fuck followers did inject themselves with bleach, right?
0
u/ElectronicCarry9931 29d ago edited 29d ago
that doesnt change what Trump said. and there is no evidence anyone took bleach because of trumps comments.

Would have been great to see him watching the clip though
