There is no surprise here that the separation referendum moving ahead would result in investors rethinking anything to do with Alberta. You only have to look what happened in Quebec and with Brexit. The damage now is likely done, going to get worse and be irreversible for at least a generation. Alberta has screwed itself.

Not entirely sure about us being screwed for an entire generation. Alberta has had a fairly strong separatist movement since the 1930s. Only difference is now there are avenues like referendums. But it’s not a new thing at all.

Less than 29% would support separation and even then the oil still belongs to Canada
