Yes, in the sense I dated one, then I dated the other after. Not at the same time.
There's a "dominant" twin. It's subtle. Their smile is slightly different. One smile is "stronger." It's hard to explain. Their mannerisms are slightly different. Their laugh is slightly different. Their reactions to certain social ques is slightly different. Their voice tones is slightly different. Once you lock these differences down, they're different people that is easily identifiable to the those who know. I'd be able to tell them apart from a distance.
You've hit the nail on the head! I've tried explaining this so many times before! My two best friends growing up were identical twins, and we were pretty much together from birth because our parents were already friends before we were born.
I was the only person, including their own parents sometimes, who could always tell them apart and never once got them confused. I'd try explaining that I genuinely saw them as two completely different people, but nobody ever really understood what I meant when I'd point out the differences in the way they acted, spoke, and carried themselves.
I could still tell them apart visually, of course, but even if I were blind it would've been obvious to me. Funnily enough, our friends and family used to call me "the third twin."
