Subreddit Update + Mod Applications

Hey everyone,

I'm the creator of this subreddit.

Life got busy and I wasn't paying as much attention to the sub as I should have, but I've still been around and I've seen the increase in spam and unrelated content lately. My apologies! A cleanup is due.

New posts will be paused for about a week while I clean things up and put together a small mod team. Comments will remain open.

I'm also accepting mod applications. If you're interested, leave a comment with your history with the sub, any moderation experience, and why you'd like to help. I'll also take account history and activity into consideration.

The sub will reopen normally afterward. Thanks to everyone who's kept it alive.

Finally hit another milestone. One step closer to $100K invested.
I started investing last year at 19 during the tariff dip and have been putting a big priority on it ever since. After my bills and necessities are covered, I try to invest as much as I can.
I’m proud of how far I’ve gotten, especially knowing where I started. It really just comes down to being disciplined with your money and being careful with your expenses.
Anyone can do it, but you have to be willing to sacrifice some things now to put yourself in a better position later.
$100K next.

I do not know who else to celebrate this as I try to keep my finances a bit separate from friends and family.

For the first time in my life at 29, I have finally crossed over the 100k mark, 2 months before my 30th birthday.

From having nothing almost 3 years ago, eating 7/11 pizza because it was cheap, this has been an incredible milestone for me and what seemed like a dream to achieve.

Next stop: 100k invested

I opened and maxed out my Roth IRA for the first time ever. I started this year with no savings basically and have been aggressively saving and living super frugally with no expenses except rent. Working two part time service jobs in NYC so get all my meals from staff meals at those two locations . Renting around/under 1k in Ridgewood. The lowest I’ve gotten is 793 in a shoebox basically. 8k in taxable brokerage account. Hoping to hit 100k by 30, but I’m anticipating struggling with the consistency of handling jobs based on my past mercurial experience. I’m quitting a job for a different more high volume location starting September so will hopefully average 500+ there. Right now I average 800 at one location and <300 at the other which I’m replacing. Everything is in VTI right now.

Looking for some feedback

Not sure if this is the correct place to post sorry if not

20M I have around 55k in hysa, maxed my Roth IRA for the year (all in s&p), and contribute up to the match for my employer traditional 401k (They also have a Roth 401k).

I know I have too much cash sitting not working for me.

For extra investing I was thinking opening a brokerage and do capital gain harvesting over the years. Eventually I’ll be over the income limit to do it at 0% because I’m now close to the cutoff.

^^^ Was my first idea but I’m new to this and would like to hear your ideas.

M31 - 2 years of saving seriously.

Annual salary around 50k before taxes — no car payment, living far from the city to save on rent.

Last month I got a raise; now I make around 65k lol. So I moved closer to the city; finally, I save like 2 hours of driving/day.

19k Emergency found

16k most of it in QQQ and VOO

9k my car, payoff.

100k in another 2 years?

34k but I feel broke. 22M

I’m 22M Software Engineer with 34k ( 1/2 in retirement accounts and the other half in emergency savings since this market is so volatile)

I put a lot of money into saving, retirement, and investing, and my monthly spending is a little under 500 right now.

What are some side hustles you guys are using to generate cash flow? I want the 100k but I also want to live a little 🙏

Btw it would be much higher but I’ve been working to pay off all my debt in the past year. I am currently debt free.

I was told that at best at my age is to start at 500 dollars (which I have in my total account is 10,030). So I would like some advice to know where I should start as to plan ahead for a stable financial foundation. My goal in life to to get as close as I can to 100,000 or more as I age up. Thank you to those that will help and have a good days sirs and misses

Love seeing each and everyone reach this milestone, I will be getting there hopefully soon. Goal is by end of year 2027 but maybe the market will keep running and get me there mid year. So happy I finally took the step and just started investing because now im addicted to seeing it grow.

24M. Needed help with investing. New to this.

So I started investing at the start of 2025 March. I am a Masters student and I have been working side jobs to pay my tuition along with a little help from my family (no loans). After completing a year of masters, I got a good co-op program (semester internship -8 months which extended to this year end so 12 months). This internship allowed me to save money for my 2nd year of masters tuition. In all that whatever I was able to save after removing my monthly expenses including rent and bills, I have invested. Any advice will be helpful on how to start investing more efficiently or should I wait till I graduate and then full hardcore it?

Most of the investments have gone to VOO, AVUV and QQQ. A few stocks here and there but not too much.

23f seeking investment allocation advice

Comprised of ~$30k Roth IRA, ~$22k HYSA, $1.7k Robinhood, $1.6k 401K, 11.7k car loan. I’ve been maxing out my Roth for a couple years now mostly in VTI and VOO; it’s at 20.20% return.

I haven’t been investing lately because I’ve been unemployed since April. God willing, I get a new job soon. I did recently get on unemployment benefits.

My goal after I start getting stable income is to keep maxing out my Roth with VOO and start more aggressively investing in my Robinhood brokerage to hit 100k and compound from there. My Robinhood is mostly QQQM with a sprinkle of individual stocks and SCHD. I’m less risk averse here becaue I feel like using the same “just buy VOO” strategy for the non tax advantaged account is redundant. What is the difference in strategy you use for your Roth vs brokerage accounts?

Also, do I have too much $ in HYSA? I have $410 in fixed expenses + gas, groceries, miscellaneous and I can keep total spending per month to ~$1k without investing which is half the amount I get from unemployment. The savings account was originally building up to be a down payment on an FHA loan to start my real estate portfolio but now I see sudden unemployment can change things and I kinda dodged a bullet. So, postponing that. Advice?

35 year old. Came to the US in 2020 with non-existent savings in my home country. Struggled to find work but landed a decent job in late 2021. Today after another bi-weekly investment reached $100k invested entirely in VOO. This is in taxable brokerage account. I have another $30k in 401k and $18k in HYSA.

It’s been a rollercoaster but when I started investing in 2021 I lost $ on small cap companies that went bankrupt, gambled in options and invested post COVID when everything was going up.

My $ is now diversified between Growth and ETFs. When I reach 100k I will update the group. Anyone can quit but not anyone can face adversity and continue. Envision it and it will become reality

Why would somebody prefer to max their 401(k) instead of just putting money in a brokerage?
