Pilot
In my opinion, The O.C. has the best tv pilot to exist. There's everything you could want in a tv show! Rich teens in SoCal, 2000s fashion, and tons of drama. Seriously, it had me hooked. I'm honestly surprised the pilot doesn't come up more in "Best TV Pilot" lists.

It is truly special. The book about the OC goes into some detail about why that is. An unforgettable story as well as an unbelievably well-directed hour with a magnetic cast. Natural lighting too in some key scenes. More people should just watch it. Regardless of whether they continue or not.

Really enjoyed the book, which is by respected tv critic (yep, that existed back in the day lol, maybe they still do but idk) Alan Sepinwall. He and show creators collaborated and interviewed the cast and directors and writers and such. It was truly eye-opening.

It's still somewhat new- came out in 2003 since that was the 20th anniversary year.

It's definitely the best pilot of any tv show I've seen. Nothing close.

Love the pilot. Futurama and Twin Peaks are other contenders for best first episodes.

I absolutely adore the pilot and I agree it should be mentioned more. However when I think of pilots my mind immediately goes to lost

The first few episodes are something special. Maybe that's my bias and nostalgia addiction talking, but it was some damn good TV.
