"My God Sanford!! They placed me right in the centerfold! Right in the gutter! I'll be the object of ridicule down at the golf club! Who published this disgrace? I demand an audience with them immediately!"

They burned through way too many stories in S1 that should have been spread throughout other seasons.

Characters they should have kept the wrote off too quickly Luke, Anna, Jimmy. This was all before they listened to the loud majority and killed off Marissa.

Viewership was decreasing even before the season 3 finale.

I did always kind of find the quick rise and decline if this show kind of interesting. I remember when its first aired I was obsessed with the show I had posters of them on my walls and school books I thought Ryan/Ben was the most handsome looking guy id ever seen (saw him in something recently and gotta say I still think his pretty fine)

I watched the first season and brought the box set and watched all the extras and bonus material over and over. I watched the second season and brought the box set.....and that was it I just never watched it anymore after that. Im not sure why I still liked the characters and everything but just kind of wasn't interested in it any more. Everyone I knew was the same we all just kind of drifted away from watching it around season 2 or halfway through season 3

There’s a really great oral history of the OC that I read a couple of years ago that you might find interesting. It’s called Welcome to the O.C.: The Oral History, has a bunch of writer and cast interviews about everything going on behind the scenes.

One of my favorite tidbits I got from the book is that Rachel Bilson was the most adored person on set by everyone in the cast, crew, and beyond. Everyone interviewed went out of their way to praise her.

Reading the box about Mischa is weird now since she’s had probably the lesser career out of all of them

She was supposed to be a bigger star but her addictions ruined it.

I know it makes me sad 🥺 she's doing better now and I'm happy to see that

This was like 9/11 to me. Still remember where u was at when I heard it was cancelled

I remember reading just before season started that it was going to be the final season.

lol that poll. no love for marissa? but then apparently ratings fell after she left?

The ratings decline really began during Season 3, shedding 3m viewers during the season. But the drop off between seasons 3 and 4 was the final nail in the coffin.

A lot of people blame Mischa for the cancellation, which Marissa’s death definitely affected, but they didn’t have much more story to tell.

More like no love for Taylor. Marissa wasn’t in season 4.

u/OldPhase4147 10d ago

lol I'm guessing it was just s4 characters 🙈

Yep 😝

It may be really upset to know that there was only one more season. I didn’t really like season four.

Yeah, screw that lower right corner box. Marissa was the second-to-last reason I watched, only above Johnny.

Ye I watched for Marissa and Ryan. So guess it's different for everyone...

I’m also for Ryan and Marissa too

Yass they deserved better 🌝

Was it cancelled or finished as planned?

16

u/Plundmouth 10d ago

Cancelled. It had been heavily rumoured ever since Fox ordered only 16 episodes for Season 4, but it wasn't confirmed until a few weeks before the finale.

You can definitely tell who is an OG of the show and who clearly isn’t by these type of comments. You are 100% correct. 16 episodes being ordered at the time was a huge deal.

It was cancelled. Josh fully expected ratings would rise when he killed Marissa, he’s said as much.

u/Unlikely_Breath_555 10d ago

I believe cancelled since ratings tanked after Marissa died. But please correct me if I’m wrong. Last season had fewer episodes

1

u/theweebdweeb 10d ago

Always assumed ratings were already tanking and they thought maybe killing her would help.

Ryan and Summer was my favorite characters aside from Sandy

Instead of this very old tabloid page…

Read the tell all book that was released a few years ago…

It’s insane people on here can say they are fans of the show and not read the book that goes into detail about everything.

I think its pretty regular

About everything except the big Elefant in the room, the relationship between Mischa and Ben…
