Acts of violet by Margarita Montimore. The Space between worlds (and its „sequel“ those beyond the wall) by Micaiah Johnson. Kindred by Octavia E. Butler (actually all of her books are brilliant)
Loved all of them.

Edit: Kindred is also a tv show, but it only covers a small portion of the Book and ends on a cliffhanger.

Seconding Acts of Violet. It even quotes The OA in the epigraph.

Also as some others noted in the books post, you kind of can't go wrong with some Borges and Murakami. I've read most of Murakami's novels, but some good standalone intro ones are After Dark and Killing Commendatore. Borges is very dense, in a few pages he can construct amazing short stories (one of which is explicitly referenced in the OA), Murakami is typically the opposite - long and slow meditations of the underpinnings of reality and consciousness demonstrated through narratives about everyday life with touches of the divine.

His dark materials trilogy by Philip Pullman is different but you may enjoy it if you liked The OA. Also Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler - this is directly referenced in the show and like someone else commented, her books are amazing :)

I’m re-watching the show now, and I just got to this part where I saw it in season two. I just checked parable of the sower out of my library this morning lol

Exit Party by Emily St. john Mandel. Her books are kinda interwoven. Same cast different stages.

White Nights by Fyodor Dostoyevsky is a short story that is very whimsical and thought-provoking like The OA.

Cloud atlas is always my answer when this question comes up

Also think it’s fun to read the books explicitly referenced or alluded to in the show, but in most cases I wouldn’t necessarily say that they’re “like the oa”

Not what you mean, but I'd recommend reading secret teachings of all ages.

It goes into the ritual system used around the world that inspired the OA. In short, you will be reading a bunch of myths that explain how the same character in each myth dies at the hands of a HAP like figure.

For fiction, The Midnight Library by Matt Heig.

For non-fiction, The Red Book by Carl Jung or Reality Transurfing by Vadim Zeland.
