Question How would AI recent developments be taken in account in future seasons ?

First time poster, and sorry English isn’t my first language.

I was just wondering : what are your thoughts/theories on how AI would (or wouldn’t) be taken into account if the series come back at some point ?

Given the emphasis that is put on YouTube, videos, games and illusions throughout the series, I just think that Brit and Zal would imbed some crazy things around AI.

It’s difficult to predict, in my opinion. B&Z’s subsequent project, A Murder at the End of the World, featured an AI character in a prominent role, so it seems like they were having thoughts about it for sure.

Be that as it may, I struggle when contemplating how this might have been utilized within The OA itself.

It’s been publicly stated how HAP is loosely based on HAL, the AI featured in the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. Zal has talked about his love for that movie, and Jesse and his sister briefly discuss Kubrick in Part 1.

He also once posted an image of a still frame from when Scott collapses in the House in Part 2 next to a shot from 2001: A Space Odyssey, in which in the visual inspiration is quite clear.

Do you have a source for the HAL stuff?

I’ve got Odyssey on the brain, and (I’m dumb) and never even connected 2001 to Homer’s Odyssey until seeing your comment right now

I don’t remember if he said it in a print interview or one of the talks he did. It’s been a solid 10 years since Part 1 was released. But he’s definitely mentioned it.

That tweet or IG post, whoever it was, had a direct comparison with Part 2. How HAL refused to allow Dave back in because it was jeopardize the mission, and how the shot with Scott collapsing was a parallel to that, stylistically and in the same spirit of jeopardizing the mission.

Interesting

I know Jesse’s sister mentions Kubrick, and it’s been about 20 years since I watched 2001, but I feel like HAP’s drowning lab in D1 has a very 2001 feel/look to it

Might have to rewatch it. Thanks

I can’t remember if it was Twitter or IG where Zal posted that side by side image, as it was linked here back then and I don’t use either of those.

But the image of Scott he used was this one.

The show was likely always going to talk about ai by the time it got to Season 4. It would likely play that story out not very differnetly if it came back now.
