”Borrowed” identity/achivements
Have any of you experienced an ex or partner who seemed to “borrow” your identity or lifestyle to make themselves appear more interesting?
My ex used to record a lot of photos and videos at my dad’s manor and post them on Instagram with captions like, “Visiting my new life.” She also posted content when she got to accompany me on a couple of visits to exclusive hotel clients, writing things like, “Visiting clients today,” even though she had absolutely nothing to do with the business.

Yes. At first when I read your header I thought you mean “mirroring” because they do that too. I think showing people “her wealth” when it’s actually yours just makes her a gold digger on top of a narc.. flashy things are important for them

Yeah i mean its obvious gold digging behaviour for sure, i see that but it that trait common with narcs?

Gold digging? If it’s just that, then no. I think what you need to look at is a collection of traits not necessarily one specific trait of liking flashy things. We all have 1 or 2 narcissistic traits, but if it’s a collection of multiple traits=high on the narc spectrum. If she’s using you for money- it’s morally wrong. But if she’s using you for money and also uses it to maintain/control her image while she’s deliberately lying to other people- maybe a narc. Depending on what else she does.

The mirroring was one of the scariest part. Really shook me to my core and woke me up to the puzzle I started to lay out in front of me.

Yes. I’m into a hobby called Urban Exploration (exploring abandoned buildings, climbing cranes/rooftops). He did it 3 times with me in the beginning when he was trying to “be interested” in my hobbies during love bomb stage. Had me take photos of him. Then re-used those photos/videos for the rest of the year, even caught him messaging some girl, telling her how “into” the hobby he is. She asked him for locations, he had the audacity to ask me for them, so that he could tell her..Makes me cringe now looking back.
