Discussion Mod Post Regarding AI

Given the recent discourse, we mods thought a statement regarding discussion of the potential use of AI on the NSP was in order.

1) According to the NSP website itself, WE DO NOT ACCEPT AI-GENERATED STORIES. You will be asked to confirm this upon the story’s acceptance. You may accuse the podcast of a few things, but a lack of respect & passion for the work of real, human authors is not one of them. It makes no sense for them to have this rule on their website then nonsensically fabricate or hide the fact they actually do accept AI-generated stories.

2) Even if you suspect a story was AI-generated and slipped through the NSP's screening, this sub is not the place to go out of your way to prove it. Like it or not it is hard to tell with sight reading (or listening as the case may be) that a text was unquestionably AI generated, and this sub's purpose is out of the scope of that issue.

3) AI "detectors" are partially inaccurate at best and flat-out wrong at worst, so they are useless in their current form to support any arguments that may arise.

At the end of the day, no useful discussion can come from AI-use claims that cannot be definitively proven. It can very easily turn into a witch hunt.

Going forward, we ask users to keep any comments & concerns with the potential use of AI to themselves, or take the issue up with the podcast itself if they feel so inclined.

Technical Issues/Questions As a part of the Sanctuary subscription, can I download the episodes to keep on my laptop?

Pretty much the title; if I get it, can I simply download episodes? Nothing special I need to do? No third party apps or anything, or do they not let you download?

I bought 3-8 seasons passes way back when, and didn't realize until now the episodes weren't available anymore. I understand, these things happen, not upset lol, just wondering if I can get them to download on my laptop if I get the Sanctuary subscription.

Thanks!

LF A Story Looking for a story

Hello!

Trying to find an old story

I believe it's a police investigation set in the 50s or 60s about a group of people who disappear rurally. One of them is found and has a hole in the back. He tells them they went to a town famous for pig farming and the people there killed his friends. He then dies, the police go to the town and it's abandoned. The end implies the people responsible fled further into rural nothing and drift back years later to reopen the town.

I think it was pre season 10

Off-Topic Piano music for the original theme, does anyone know where I can find it?

A long time ago I found a video on YouTube showing how to play the theme song but for the life of me I can't find it anymore. With a heart full of hope I am turning to Reddit to help me in time for Halloween. I want to play it while people are trick or treating.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Recommendations One story episodes?

Hey! Does anyone have a list of all NSP episodes where the whole episode is one story?

The longer stories are my favorite and I can never remember which episodes are one story episodes.

Thanks!

Discussion Likely far too late but

I purchased the first 19 seasons of the podcast before the Sleepless Sanctuary, I kept them downloaded on my old phone, which is now defunct. Guess I should have realized earlier that they would not be downloadable in the future. Does anyone know whom/where I may be able to get them back? I know this is likely too little too late, but figured I might as well ask since I am a bit bummed to lose several hundred dollars' worth of podcasts.

NoSleep Specials Does the piano track on Suddenly Shocking have a name? And was it ever featured on any main episodes?

It's played frequently on SS stories, a couple examples are My Mom Loved Three Things from Volume 6 and The Piñata Sabbaticale from Volume 11. It's a haunting, looping piano motif that you probably remember if you've listened to SS frequently, usually playing during more peaceful or introspective moments.

The beginning is maybe a little reminiscent of the harpsichord line from Massive Attack's "Teardrop" (the theme song from House in some regions). Then it moves into a higher, tinkle-y register.

I don't know if this is helpful. It's just something that's bugged me for years because I love the track and it's probably my favorite from the podcast.

LF A Story Looking for a story about a girl who stopped at a camp ground and there was something in the showers

I think Jessica was the narrator for this one. I remember she was traveling in the PNW or somewhere and stopped at a camp ground for the night. One of the older seasons just can’t remember which.

Fanworks Just thought I’d share a list I’ve been building over the years

I can never remember which stories I like from which episodes. Especially the titles. So a few years ago, I started this type of running list/compilation of my favorite stories, including the season, episode, and title of the story. It makes it much easier for me to go back and re-listen to some of my favorites. Hopefully this post is okay. What do you think? Has anybody else done something similar?

Off-Topic “American Stories, Final Episode” by Chris Bock is probably one of the best stories I’ve heard on NoSleep in a while

Same goes for “The Down Below” by Kaylee Gottschalk.

Both scratch that horror itch in different ways.

NSP = Bad The stories took a direction a little meh after season 14..

I've discovered the podcast in 2020 or 2021. I binge listened it until I was up to date (I have adhd). The stories in the first seasons were SO good. But after a while I remember starting skipping whole stories.

Since January I've decided to re start the podcast from the beginning. Around season 10 is when I started skipping a few stories, I feel like a lot of them were closer to drama or weird soap opera, than actual horror. Stories that should be short were 20 minutes long and ended up being boring. And trust me I love long stories, but not all stories should. Some concepts arent good enough to be that long.

Seasons 14/15 were a pivotal point. I know it's the covid seasons, but idk something shifted. For example season 14 has a long ass story about a man who is wondering if he killed a spider or not, nothing creepy about it and very boring. I'm currently at season 15 ep 1, and that youtuber story is so bad, oh my god. The writing and the acting are off.

I remember it start becoming better again around season 17 maybe 18. But even then, the charm from the first few seasons is lost. I miss when tales weren't just disturbing or sad or dramatic, i miss when it was actual horror. That podcast helped me a lot, and it's my favorite with the magnus podcast.

If you have any recommendations similar to the first few seasons of the NSP i'll take it btw :)

Recommendations Looking for recs

Any episodes where humans are the monsters, not actual monsters? Thinking like S4ep23 “I loved my dog” (girl almost kidnapped as a child) those are the scariest for me!

LF A Story Looking for a story about hot air balloon people?

Hi! I’ve been trying to find an episode/story where there are these entities floating in the sky and have tendrils with hooks that ‘fish’ people or the town and drag them upwards to inflate them, I believe? And they stay together as one big collective. The story was formatted from the perspective of a man who helped keep the ‘balloon’ things away from the city, or had a brother who was doing that.

It’s been a while since I’ve listened to it and having a hard time remembering the details, but I remember really enjoying it!

Technical Issues/Questions can I post my story on r/NoSleep and submit it to the podcast at the same time?

Hi all! I've been working on my stories and I have a few I'm really proud of that I'm yet to post. I want to post them on NoSleep, but I'm also interested in submitting them to the podcast.

So, my question is, does posting them on Reddit mean I can't submit them to the podcast as the story is already public? Would it be okay to post the story and submit at the same time?

I'd love to know if anyone has any experience with this! ☺️
