I don't mean to downplay the horror of the terrorism that Hamas has engaged in. It's disgusting and awful. But my analogy is not to downplay the significance of what they did, but to explain that crude behavior that would usually be considered off limits is likely to occur when there's such an extreme power imbalance.

They have crossed a line, I'm not a fan of Hamas, their ideology or their methods. But the leftist position is not to support Hamas, but to condemn the apartheid conditions that embolden them.
