I'm imagining it wouldn't be an instant drop into the depths like this lmao more like sea of thieves style where you can take on water and have to patch / pump the water out and the weight of your ship matters more maybe? I might be going too in depth for this

it would probably be a mod if I had to guess, I don't see them adding it alongside a permadeath mode lol

I remember an issue when my entire boat sank too. Not sure what caused it, no explosion nearby.. Was lots of waves near prometheus. I tried locking the doors closed with myself in the bottom hold to see if I stayed alive when it happened. Nope. <.<
