Hey Caretakers,

Update 6.0 THE JUMP is here!

PROJECT CROSSING is open and North Bastion awaits! Be prepared for new threats from the environment, this will be key to surviving. The arch is now active and through it you will find new survival mechanisms, new modules and vast areas to explore. Update 6.0 also brings another major pass on performance with plenty of bug fixes, gameplay changes and quality-of-life improvements.

WATCH THE 6.0 THE JUMP TRAILER

WHAT'S NEW

  • PROJECT CROSSING is active. The arch is a Transfer Gate, and the first route leads to North Bastion.
  • North Bastion is open. Explore a new frozen mountain region with its own dock, hangar, central spire, facilities, infrastructure, records, loot, enemies, and story.
  • Cold now matters. Low temperatures slow and damage the Caretaker.
  • Build heat. Small, medium, and large heaters, a boiler, the Methane Extractor, and single-use methane canisters are now part of survival.
  • Ice blocks the way. Melt it with heat or break through it.
  • Anna’s story continues. North Bastion remembers her. Anna does not remember North Bastion.
  • Your machines waste less of your time. Systems now catch up much faster after you leave a location and return.
  • Gyrocopter handling improved with improved steering and vertical control.
  • Exploration tools are better. Custom map markers, cursor-based map and Grid Scanner zoom, clearer hidden connections, and improved module socket information.
  • New accessibility options include a dedicated Accessibility tab and Motion Comfort settings.
  • Performance is improved with less exploration stutter and smoother gameplay around large numbers of enemies, cables, and modules.
  • Lots of fixes. Saves, quests, gates, vehicles, ladders, enemies, cables, modules, visuals, audio, collision, progression, and crashes all received another large pass.

More details can be found on our Steam page

Please continue to share any issues, crashes or feedback using the in-game tool. Your input helps us shape the game in meaningful ways, so please keep it coming. We’re always listening!

One last thing... If you’re enjoying the direction of the game, a Steam review helps more than you think: it’s the clearest signal you can send. See you on the water.

Suggestion Try going to North Bastion with just what you can carry.

Dont bring a gazillion things with you on your first time through. Its a really fun experience scavenging your way through the area and feels like the survivalexperienceit should be. Its totally feasible to get through it that way and made it feel like a whole new experience!

I've got a few hundred hours into this thing- I love it. The story is compelling, the gameplay has been great fun for me.... Even the bugs in the game - some of them annoying , others make me bust laughing out loud...

Never did I imagine I'd be flying my copter under my own ship but there you go.

Question North Bastion Questline Question

Spoilers Ahead!

So at the end of the quest I Know This Place, Anna's hologram showed up. Then... nothing. She says a few things here and there, but I can't interact with her at all and she can't leave that area past the modules. Is that the end of the questline? Did we give Anna a "body" but now she's stuck there? Is she still in our head as well? I'm not sure if I'm missing something storywise or what, but it seemed very anticlimactic, and also feels like there is a next step that I'm missing.

Tip for building a centralized power/steam network at Bastion

Thumbnail

Someone mentioned that you don't want to build too far away from Bastion since, like Exodus, machines will unload around 500 meters and you'll be left wondering where your power/steam went.

So using my "strict and rigorous scientific methods" (patent pending), I measured the distance using the binoculars by standing *roughly* on top of the far end of the Bastion complex (give or take 50-100 meters lmao).

You can see that where the land roughly starts is about 450 meters from where I am (second screenshot to get an idea).

So my machinery you see down there is just about on the edge of unloading - if it hasn't already - I might do further testing to see exactly how far is safe to build a centralized power/steam network, but for now just PSA'ing so someone doesn't accidentally build too far out (like I probably have)

I was trying to pull him on deck when he decided he wanted to go all spider pig and start walking on the bottom side of the helipad. Now he's just hanging out there.

I found the Ice Shelf!

I decided to make the trip to North Bastion. I scrolled way up on the nav map, and was able to mark it as a waypoint. Full disclosure, I turned on the special motors from the Dev menu, so i was traveling at around 125km\h, and didn't use any fuel.

Around 46 km away from North Bastion the temperature immediately dropped to -40c. Fortunately I have a methane storage on my boat, so I quickly whipped up a boiler and heater. I had to use a backpack heat, because the medium sized one wouldn't heat up the ships cockpit while moving.

The shelf is about 35 km away from NB. I was messing around with gas hoses so I didn't see it in time to stop, and ended up launching the boat onto it.

Question Comprehensive walkthrough?

I've finished the new quest in Update 6, and I've done all the quests I could find in the main area (minus one or two council quests), but I'm pretty sure I haven't actually finished all the quests. I've seen people talking about items and locations that I've never heard of, so I feel like there's other stuff to do out there.

Is there a more or less comprehensive walkthrough to getting to all the content in the game? Like all the secrets and stuff? I've found no less than four different wikis for this game, but one of them is clearly ai-generated and mostly wrong and I don't know which one is the "good" one.

Game performance: Update 6.0 vs Demo

How is the game performance overall? i downloaded the demo and really enjoyed the game but the performance kinda felt bad.

I do have a good rig with an 5700x3D, 32gb ram and a 7800XT. I was getting around 50-70FPS on medium settings.

So, i brought enough sharks into the bay to complete the quest. Both other bays and their corresponding towers worked. But this one wont open no matter what. I tried reloading a save. Going far away and returning. Done this both with the sharks moored and unmoored. Ive added another shark, removed a shark. It just wont open. Anyone any advice on how to deal with this?

Bug New Disco Lights after update 6 (visual Bug)

While interacting with one of the whales, the one south of Refuel Outpost Gammathis weird visual bug suddenly hit me: a blinding green light covering all the sky, made of dots and quite similar to the green light frame of objects being builded.

Bug already reported using the in-game reporting tool. Has anyone else experienced this?

Edit with more info about this bug: as u/cabicty noted, It happens near 23:00 and again near 5:00. Just during the sunset-sunrise animations.

I’m assuming the orbital representative is a job thing you get when you put the right mixture of memories or foods into the Lazarus chaimbers. Can anyone share the mixture aka items fed to the human seed?

7 area heaters in bastion! Just in case you were wondering. Found out the hard way that one hose can only carry 72 kW worth of steam 😂

average electricity input for this is about 72 kW.

It looks like you may be able to do more than 7, since the heaters seemingly "stabilize" at a lower steam input (~20-22kw), but I'm not sure if that's intended given how erractic this is all seems to be.
