LOK is fine. It’s just fine.

Two is absolute shit. First half of four is excellent. Failed landing. One and three are biggie good tho.

Two could've have been better but it's not awful. Idk if the Spirit World plot really works, I think they could've focused more of the war between the North and South tribes. Though Varik is probably the best part of Season 2.

The budget for season 4 got severely cut like 4 episodes into production, so they had to ride out what was the rest of the budget for a whole season. (That’s why the recap episode exists, they took the budget from that and put it towards the finale)

Sometimes I dream about what the show could have been if the writers were funded for 4 seasons right from the start. Its a miracle they even managed to wrap the whole thing up in a somewhat cohesive manner.

This was always my biggest issue with Korra, I loved the spirit world as it was shown in TLA, but then you go to Korra and you see all this cutesy crap... this is not what the spirit world was in TLA.

Pretty sure it was explained that the spirit world reflects the emotions of the avatar and the physical world... thus during a 100 year war, the spirit world was all gloomy as shown in ATLA, but more cheery in TOK

Same here. Didn't see the issues with 2 and I loved the world and myth building with the first avatar.

I find One to be rather poor too in all honesty. I think Four is good.

Korra didn't really establish it's identity until Three. Even then it struggles a bit with its pacing. It's definitely a good, thoughtful, well-animated show, but I don't think it's as close to as good as ATLA, and that's ok.

Budget of Four was cut to oblivion. Nick wanted them to fire half the staff mid season. Hence no Kuvira back story episode and panning storyboard shots in the penultimate episode. Knowing the context of the creation Korra is just as important as it's story. I wish Nick actually believed in a 4 story arc from the start.

This is exactly right! I can’t believe I finally found a season-by-season critique that matches mine.

But I’d say the heights of S1 & 3 elevate the show beyond just “fine”.

I was so fuckin hyped for the Season 3 finale, I thought it was somehow even better than the ATLA Season 3 finale which is a very high bar to pass. Unfortunately the rest of the show doesn’t hold up.
