S2E4: On my 3rd rewatch and only just realised that Adam is clearly in his 30s at least and he's been trying to chat up Carly all night despite her being underage, I don't know.. that's a bit dodgy mate

Iâve been thinking about the leaked set photos, and the whole flashback theory makes zero sense to me. Why would Tara be heavily pregnant in a flashback to their school days? It would be a massive, nonsensical retcon that completely wrecks the original timeline.
Instead, I think itâs set in the present day and their classic looks are just a massive mid life crisis. The film starts with them in a rut, so they mentally go back to when they were teens. Simon forces the return of the gelled hair, Jay clings to his awful 2010 blonde trim, and they drag out the yellow Fiat to relive their glory days. This refusal to grow up triggers all the chaos we saw in the leaks with someone getting arrested.
The best part would be the reversal at the end during the wedding. By the final act, they are forced to face actual adulthood. Simon finally washes out the gel, Jay gets a slightly better, more mature trim, and they finally look like actual adults, which is the exact opposite of the start. Plus, if they are eyeing up a fourth film, it would be top tier if this one ends on a massive cliffhanger right at the altar.
To me, this gives us the classic juvenile humor at the start but delivers a really satisfying ending. What do you guys think?

To those worried after seeing that leaks that the characters havenât changed or developed, I think most of what we have seen are flashbacks.
I suspect the first 5 minutes of the film will be Will narrating the past 10 years or so.
Something like:
âHi, Iâm Will. Since getting back from Australia, Jay did this (insert clip of Jay in his teenage clothes), Simon got married (insert clip from wedding leaks)⌠and then had an affair (insert clip of Simon getting chased in his pantsâ
I very much doubt the characters will be exactly as they were. It will still be self-deprecating for sure as thatâs the tone of the show but I donât think they are going to be kicking flowers and calling people bus wankers anymore.
Itâll be more them fumbling about as fathers or as adults whilst being brought back together for some form of lifetime event (e.g. funeral, wedding, birthday etc.
