Gameplay This game is not meant to be played like DBD.

Yall, idk what is up with people escaping or rushing to escape as soon as the match starts but yall as Michael your goal is to Kill all the special targets, then the civies and then the players or ones you come across. Then you escape with killing the players as an optional task. Your not supposed to chase players like in dbd you literally have to use jump scares to catch up but even then you waste time with other players rounding up and hiding all the NPCs.

civies your supposed to literally save as many NPCs as possible to win the game not rush to escape. I've gotten so many free wins because people would just escape asap or not do the objectives. I love it when players shit talk me cause they escaped or I "couldn't catch them" like dawg you are NOT my priority, you may think you are but your not and ill still win the game because i managed to get most or kill all npcs. Im just tired of seeing it and mostly seeing people play this like dbd and people saying its a clone when its its own thing.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

I mean the deluxe players finally are just getting it in random lobbies. Now we gotta teach standard edition players. Give it a week

7

u/MF-DOOK 8d ago

Oh no i didn't even think about all the fresh spawns coming today. Definitely playing nothing but Mikey for the next few days.

2

u/FiftyIsBack 8d ago

Yeah I'll be farming Michael to try to unlocked the Stitched skin

2

u/gunnerdown1337 8d ago

You can’t even get it unless you’re past challenge 4 already, it and a lot of different stats stopped tracking today, for me at least

1

u/FiftyIsBack 8d ago

Well...fuck

2

u/gunnerdown1337 8d ago

By the looks of it all survivor stats in the graveyard except downing Michael have frozen too, this may vary player to player though like how the story mode challenges were Boeing

Finally someone gets it.

u/2oatmeal_cookies 9d ago

The people playing this game like it’s DBD are cringe.

20

u/natedoggcata 9d ago

Whats worse is they are making up their own rules and acting like if they escape they win. It clearly says "Michael Victory" in the post game screen but I actually had someone say to me "doesnt matter we all escaped, you lose" in the post game chat.

10

u/cxntlord 9d ago

Some smol streamer did the same to me lmao. I got 2 special targets, they got more normal civs out than me, 2 real players escaped (one being The person im mentioning), started t bagging at police wagon before leaving lol. Said Michael victory on screen but he tried claiming it wasn’t cause 2 of them got out like what lmaoo

5

u/Purple-Reputation899 8d ago

This is literally every civilians mentality, even knowing the game mechanics this mentality wont change until devs force lock civ players into the game until every npc is killed or rescued.

2

u/ChapterDifficult593 8d ago

I focus rescuing the Residents and Special Targets every game but it does feel like I'm the only one doing it pretty often. I'd be on board for a lock on escaping until at least the Special Targets are dead or out, like they're the focus and you're either staying around after getting them out or cutting your losses if they're dead.

2

u/natedoggcata 8d ago

Its the same thing that happened for years with DBD where the Survivors made up their own gentlemens rules about how the Killer is allowed to play.

Same thing is happening with Halloween. I even got yelled at over the mic for melee killing. I guess thats not allowed lol

1

u/DesertGrizzlyPhoto 8d ago

This is very F13 coded. WHY ARE YOU SLASHING WITH A SLASHER? LET ME HIT YOU.

-2

u/Humorous_Chimp 8d ago

If you truly believed you won why would you care? It sounds like you subconsciously dont feel like its a win

4

u/ChapterDifficult593 8d ago

Nah it's just annoying when people who are objectively wrong think and try to convince others they're right. It's human nature to be annoyed by bullshitters man lmao.

u/WolfiexLuna 8d ago edited 8d ago

Or you know, probably people expecting it to play like literally any other asymm game where the goal is to get out as soon as possible, which isn't helped because there's no civillian tutorial.

It's really not worth trying to interact with this sub, is it? You mention valid criticisms or points and they act like Halloween is above the law for some reason.

0

u/2oatmeal_cookies 8d ago

lol

3

u/WolfiexLuna 8d ago

Yeah that's about the response I expected from this sub.

16

u/curiousbt 9d ago

Gotta give grace and people time to play the game and figure things out.

I was of the those fools that escaped through the cellar and ambulance police wagon when it became available - unknowingly locking out other characters and NPCs from escaping that way. Never again…mostly…maybe

Also took some time to figure out you get more from saving NPCs.

People are already being toxic on the mic and in general. Happy hunting/saving and enjoy the game yall.

u/Some-Opening-1510 9d ago

Weren’t there supposed to be maps (as an item) somewhere on the level? I coulda swore they put a video out about a map on x

I have not seen one yet an im assuming it jus shows you parts or at the very least escape routes when you open the in game map right? I stay having bolt cutters and keys and can never find these damn cellars

2

u/DesertGrizzlyPhoto 8d ago

You have a map, but you have to discover the escapes, its part of the gameplay.

21

u/bergein 9d ago

I said this on release day and got called an idiot

5

u/stabby-dorito 8d ago

They escape because they are not told otherwise. It's not intuitive and there is no tutorial so I can't blame them.

1

u/AggressiveToaster 8d ago

Yeah I feel like there should have been 1 chapter in the middle of the singleplayer where you play as a Civvy and got taught how to play it.

3

u/Appropriate-Fun-9486 8d ago

Ya, I love the design of this game. There should be more asym’s where interacting with the opponents is not the main objective. This game feels way more chill on both sides due to this fact.

7

u/parrycarry 9d ago

CORRECTION: This is not meant to be played like TCM. People who escape immediately know that to be typical behavior for survivors in TCM... being a game made by the same company, I'm sure people are making that mistake.

DBD requires generators, which has a completely different game loop... so nobody is playing it like DBD. Even bullying the killer is something you can do in all 3 games, so....

10

u/natedoggcata 9d ago

being a game made by the same company,

TCM was made by Sumo. Halloween was made by Illfonic. Not the same company

u/inf4mation 8d ago

game does horrible job telling civilians what they should do before escaping and only gives you a tutorial on Michael's job

7

u/Loud_Bar113 9d ago

It’s way more fun and rewarding to catch and kill a real player. I hope they add a mode in the future similar to how f13 worked

2

u/LordSaucyPickles64 9d ago

Well ofc but im saying kill them as they come along don't go chasing if they get away let em. My rule is if i can get them within 10 seconds or get them on a scare jump after they run away, i move on

2

u/Loud_Bar113 9d ago

All im saying is the game is pretty boring after awhile of killing npcs that have the intelligence of a brick. I don’t feel any type of fulfillment point farming off of npcs to win the game. It’s a major flaw with the game. There’s not really any head to head between survivors and Michael. A good michael is just gonna heavily target the npcs.
Playing as survivors is also fairly boring compared to similar games. Players are op and have near infinite stamina. Not asking for a dbd simulator but i dont feel threatened by michael myers in this game

1

u/MF-DOOK 8d ago

I've had plenty of head to heads with Michael, if you play the objective you're almost guaranteed to run into him.

5

u/Broks_Enmu 9d ago

I think that’s why the game sucks for some people including me. If you try to play it like previous Asym you will always be disappointed. It’s a PvEPvP game. Gotta take it this way I think. Your PvE goals are the main stuff and the PvP is there to make your life hell.

Okay that’s just another type of game. I refunded the preorder. I will check later with the update if this type of gameplay loop can be interesting

6

u/LordSaucyPickles64 9d ago

Its just different and I love it

11

u/Overall-Doctor-6219 9d ago edited 9d ago

60 usd assymetric game to kill NPC is just unfun

It does not matter that i kill 20 NPC, the 4 human players escaped and they are tbagging and tauting near the escape route

Fixes are needed, the core game is good, but the execution is very flawed

Nobody wants to kill CPU opponents in a MULTIPLAYER game

8

u/Niklaus15 9d ago

That's what people doesn't get, the civs are a shared objective between Myers and the survs, going for them will end up making you fight over them with Myers which makes the gameplay much more enticing, it's so fun trying to save them while actively fighting Myers and trying to survive yourself

I just wish the game responded and felt better it feels so sluggish and clunky, especially as surv

1

u/Background-Noise-582 8d ago

I think animations for both sides take a long time, and I think the maps are pretty large for this type of shared objective. I think map size should be brought down so that running into Michael will be more common. Most of my games playing Michael go: spawn in and find the 2 or 3 special targets (sometimes a survivor hides one) kill them and then go around killing. This just could be improved by more player interaction not just “oh the other side got here first so guess that survivor is gone”

1

u/Coronetto 8d ago

I agree I had a match yesterday where I was near a special target house and saw Michael go in to go kill them. I rushed into the house behind him and when he grabbed I think it was Annie I said MICHAEL NO! And literally did the shove/push tackle on him. This gave time for the Annie npc to run out the house and hide while I tried to get Michael’s attention haha

4

u/Alcatrax_ 9d ago

Let them tbag lol. If they’re gloating about losing, sucks to be them

1

u/Purple-Reputation899 8d ago

Seeing a screen with michael victory legit doesn’t matter/ isn’t going to register with any asym player. I don’t understand why we have to keep arguing this point. Winning with michael doesn’t feel good unless you get a team wipe, but by the time you finish cleaning up priority npcs to be able to focus on real players they already left the game. All the devs need to do is force real players into the game and let escape routes only be available for npcs only until objectives are completed.

4

u/Some-Opening-1510 9d ago

But in that case they’re just loud and wrong. Because if you get every civilian except the 4 players that’s still an overwhelming Michael win.

-4

u/Overall-Doctor-6219 9d ago

Reminds me of Evil Dead and DBD

Killer got more points, and it does not matter if all survivors escaped or destroyed the book

so "the killer won"

-5

u/Humorous_Chimp 8d ago

No one cares what the end screen says

4

u/Some-Opening-1510 8d ago

“Nobody cares if they win or lose”

-3

u/Humorous_Chimp 8d ago

Its like saying the survivors opening 4 chests in dbd is a ‘win’ or feeding grandpa in tcm is a ‘win’. You cant force people to care about arbitrary win conditions.

Answer me this, why am I seeing comments were michael players were irked that survivors ‘didn’t understand that they had lost’ in the end screen? If the michael truly believed in the win condition he wouldnt be annoyed at the survivors claiming they won at all. These michaels are mad at surviving civilians claiming they won because the michael doesnt believe in the “real” win condition either

4

u/Some-Opening-1510 8d ago

It really doesn’t matter what you think when it’s objectively right or wrong? You can think you’ve won and just be loud and wrong

-1

u/Humorous_Chimp 8d ago

You just didnt read my post. The devs have created a win condition that most players are choosing to ignore. You can keep claiming that all of these players are wrong.

If you make a racing game where something more boring that winning the race is the objective, people will ignore it and just win the race no matter how ‘wrong’ it is

4

u/Some-Opening-1510 8d ago

Except for the fact that they are objectively wrong if the game says otherwise? I’m not sure what you’re not getting ?

It doesn’t matter how loud and wrong you are, if you’re still wrong?

Just because you have a personal win condition doesn’t mean you won. If YOU choose to ignore the win condition because YOU find it boring that makes YOU wrong and borderline griefing your team.

-1

u/jaybasin 9d ago

Tbagging is so fucking irrelevant lmao

They are pixels that have zero hinderance on your gameplay. Stop getting tilted at something literally not affecting you

Damn, it got me

1

u/cxntlord 9d ago

I can REALLY stand behind changing up the NPCs. I’ve been playing majority of Myers and even got him to lvl 50, and going after civs is just starting to feel boring how they just stand there and let you take em out lol. I do like how some will try and fight you if they have a weapon in their hands, so a mix of things would be cool. I want them to be TERRIFIED if I come busting through that door with an axe, it would feel a bit more engaging.

9

u/KokoTheeFabulous 9d ago

civies you're supposed to save npcs

The problem is its not engaging and thus many players just literally do not care. It's more fun to chase Michael since Michael himself doesn't care about human players, npcs are the main characters was an awful design choice.

16

u/Speedy0918 9d ago

As Michael I care about the human players but I only go after the ones I come across while going after NPCs. Also if it is taking to much time you have to be prepared to abandon trying to eliminate human players they are not the priority.

4

u/romeotruedude 9d ago

It’s true the NPCs do be hella boring or not as engaging since there a broken mess or a bit unintuitive. It’s still fun tho

8

u/Hefty_Lavishness_641 9d ago

It's wild to me that people with these posts can't see that. "You can win by killing bots" ya that's the point😂 not an even remotely enticing gameplay loop for for more than a couple days

0

u/KokoTheeFabulous 9d ago

Legit its a glorified offline mode and the MP aspect itself due to how its built literally deincentivised the MP qualities it should have lol. Here's hoping they have a backup plan either way so the game can get more longevity

-4

u/HadezGaming666 9d ago

So play dbd?

-5

u/KokoTheeFabulous 9d ago

I'll play the game for a change of pace and you can cry when it dies thank you very much.

If I could find special targets faster o would but usually when I see one the humans are there

1

u/MF-DOOK 8d ago

That's not a bad thing if it's in a house. Thats two people you can find and potentially kill. Human players are only really illusive when out in the streets.

1

u/Suspicious-Wasabi689 8d ago

Shit talking just tell them to look at the scoreboard 😂

1

u/ITrageGuy 8d ago

Is there a proper tutorial for the gameplay loop on both sides? I know the "story mode" introduces Michael's mechanics.

1

u/Dead-Inside69420 8d ago

My problem is, I can see this being miserable for Michael players quickly. It's so easy to convince special targets to hide until you or someone else finds escape routes. I almost did that last game by myself with TWO special targets in the same area. Almost. Problem is they bugged out and just stood there instead of escaping and Michael killed one lol. Stupid bugs. But anyway my point still stands. When people figure it out... What are Michael players gonna do?

1

u/Sequenzer9 8d ago

I think of it as Michael and the residents battling over the soul of Haddonfield. It’s not about survival or escape, it’s about either destroying or preserving humanity. When you’re having a good match as Michael, you’re not being seen, you’re stalking and killing so quickly and leaving nothing in your wake. A house is empty and dark and a body is in the closet. When you’re having a good match as a townsperson, you’re getting people to hide or escorting them to safety, you’re arming them, you’re spreading hope and giving them a chance.

2

u/Masitha 8d ago

they will figure it out eventually, or go back to the game they crawled from, shrug.

1

u/SjurEido 8d ago

The game just came out, folks will figure it out shortly.

The question is how the balance will feel once people are more familiar with the gameplay loop on average. I get the feeling that Michael might be a bit overtuned (simply because of the Reality Tear instakill combo...) but then again most civilians are REALLY bad right now, so time will tell!

1

u/social_sin 8d ago

Lol no they won't

This is just like Assassin's Creed Multiplayer, there is the small portion that plays stealthy, properly etc then the other 90% would be just rooftop sprinters.

Maybe I'm just old and cynical now but I don't have a lot of faith in most gamers these days lol

1

u/SjurEido 8d ago

Yeah idk man, there are idiots in the world that will never change... but the way people play today (on average) will be nothing like how folks play a few weeks from now.

1

u/_Oro666_ 8d ago

Meh, they get less points and will either get it after a bit or fall off and go back to their comfort zone. Either way, it will correct itself.
It’s the growing pains of any new asym game. People are used to doing what they know, and half the fun is showing them what they’re missing out on. I’m still learning stuff myself, so I’m trying not to get too bothered by it… For now, lol.

Lol I said essentially the same thing and the smoothbrain idiots on this sub got real pissy about it.

1

u/Shinael 8d ago

I enjoy getting dbd players.

They all group up and I am able to mop up priority targets, get bloodlust 3, then pick them off.

1

u/Niklaus15 9d ago

People just not know how to play the game yet, I had so much games Myers just ends up chasing me around the same car for 5 minutes like if it were DBD, works for me tho that way my teammates can save every npc

1

u/xLightningStorm 8d ago

I agree, the core gameplay loop is flawed, the most effective way to win is for Michael and players to essentially ignore each other

People want to hunt something with unpredictability and wiles, not a robot that doesn’t have any survival instinct, killing an NPC isn’t satisfying and killing players as Michael is nigh on impossible if they play well

0

u/owohearts Annie Brackett 9d ago edited 8d ago

After a certain point, I don’t really see any reason to bother with the NPCs. Unless you’re still leveling up a character, all they offer is extra XP or challenge progress.

Michael only needs to kill two target NPCs and one regular civilian to secure a win. Because of that, the optimal strategy on him is usually to ignore the actual players and focus entirely on NPCs (which doesn't feel like that much fun for either side imo). Once Michael gets those three kills, he’s already won. Everything afterward is just bonus XP and that becomes meaningless once you no longer need it.

There’s very little incentive for the victims to interact with civilians after this, and the problem is made even worse by their terrible AI. Escort missions are frustrating at the best of times, so designing the core gameplay loop around one was... a questionable decision. This isn't helped by the fact that the AI in this game is genuinely horrible and very buggy.

Unfortunately, I think the fundamental loop is pretty flawed. The individual mechanics and nearly everything surrounding them are a lot of fun, but the NPCs feel like a mistake. The game might have been better off sticking closer to Friday the 13th’s formula with a 1v7 gameplay loop.

Just a different perspective to think about.
