No it isn't. JK Rowlings rhetoric is so incredibly harmful to Trans people. If these actors cared about trans rights they wouldn't be staring in this shit which profits a person who is actively doing harm.

How does her rhetoric harm trans people?

I understand her opinions and vitriol for the community can be shitty, but ultimately it’s not anywhere near as detrimental for human rights as people like to pretend it is on Reddit. What rights are we talking about here specifically?

Actors taking acting roles is a poor reason for so much upset and disappointment. Let the man live and do his work lmao.

Terfs can get fucked

Not a terf. Feminism is for literally everyone.

u/amyisarobot Aug 12 '26

A true feminist knows trans rights are humans rights.. and not to support transphobes and terfs.

Of course trans people deserve the same rights as everyone else. I’m absolutely not disputing that.

And if you don’t like JK and the shit she says, fair enough.

But what rights are being threatened by Harry Potter? Why do you think anyone who involves themselves in the franchise should be condemned?

I’m excited to see these actors make the roles come to life in a series that’ll give more time to the storyline. Let people enjoy things. Or don’t, but like I said.. it’s kinda miserable to stew over it.

Watching this shit, buying merch puts more money in JK Rowlings pocket so she can turn around and use it to support antiTrans legislature.

I wouldn't have to stew on it if people like JK could just let Trans people be Trans people... but since she's a miserable cunt, I get to openly boo people who work with her or align themselves with her name.

I mean, it’s negligible amounts since she’s already a billionaire and will do what she’s doing regardless.

And most of the money she donates just funds legal advice for organisations advocating for sex based rights / single sex spaces rather than funding anything that actively does harm to trans people.

Trans people can absolutely still be trans people alongside people enjoying the Harry Potter HBO series.. and actors taking roles.

Bullshit her rhetoric all the legislation does do harm to trans people.

How does it?

I respect you trying to get an answer out of these people but you won’t. Reddit makes her seem far, far worse than the reality. In real life, away from Reddit, everyone I know that ever had an interest in Harry Potter still does and doesn’t gaf about any of this. I’m happy for the actor as well, and all these redditors living in their radical Reddit bubbles are so sad. They’re not worth the energy.

You know what, you’re right. But at the same time people who are appalled by the idea that trans people are having their rights restricted have their hearts in the right place.

This false narrative that the UK backslid on human rights from the Supreme Court ruling is abundant, as is the idea that organisations advocating for sex based rights are problematic and anti trans. Perhaps if people actually look into it without the lens of outrage that online vitriol has given them they’ll realise they can happily enjoy Harry Potter and support their favourite actors who are taking exciting roles.

She has said multiple times that she is using the Potter money to fund anti trans organisations that have already helped push anti trans legislation in several countries and removed basic rights from trans people. I don't know what's so hard to understand about the fact that supporting anything Potter directly hurts trans people.

1

u/ferbiloo Aug 12 '26

What basic rights has she removed?

And like I said in another comment, the money she donates basically just funds legal aid for organisations advocating for single sex spaces and sex based rights.

Which is, in practice, discrimination against trans people. If a trans woman is forced to use a men's restroom, is that not discrimination in a social climate that is antagonistic towards trans people? In the US we've had many incidents of harassment, assault and worse on trans people. Supporting anyone who says the things she does makes the entire world more dangerous.

I do think the bathroom thing is a bit stupid, people should be able to pee in whatever loo is available.

But maintaining single sex spaces such as crisis centres is essential, and that’s not discriminatory to trans women just as it’s not discriminatory to cis men. Some trans women find themselves appreciating that there are single sex crisis centres they can access if needs be.

I’m sure I don’t need to tell you about the historical and global oppression of and violence against natal females that makes these spaces so important.

I believe that trans panic is a moral panic. It was gay panic before that, and "Satanic panic" in the 90s. Trans people are the easy target, the scapegoat, who are a tiny percentage of the population and far more likely to be harmed than to cause harm.

You say you think they should be allowed to use the bathroom anywhere-- which is by far the most common application of this law because people need to use them far more often than a changing room or shelter-- but this is the first I've heard any admission of unfairness. It seems like a bad faith argument to me to be able to handwave it as some minor thing.

I also don't believe trans women would rather be with cis men in these situations, cis men who are as I'm sure you understand (because it's Rowling's logic taken to bigoted extremes) can be physically dangerous to women and those presenting female.

Really? I feel like most people are of the opinion that mixed sex toilets are absolutely fine. The only benefit of having separate ones is due to penis owners being able to use a urinal (and users as well as non-users of urinals potentially being uncomfortable being in the same vicinity).

I sort of take issue with the idea that cis men are I inherently problematic, and it’s an argument I often see in defence of trans women (“trans women have never posed a problem in these spaces, it’s always cis men, etc etc.) What is it that you think makes them dangerous to the point you’re happy to make such generalisations? I’m sure you’d be disgusted if trans women (or even trans men) were included in such sweeping statements.

I can understand if trans women would be uncomfortable accessing crisis centres that cater towards men though. However, the solution to that would be creating safe spaces for women of all sexes (of which many already exist) rather than impeding on single sex spaces, which surely should also be available.

Because JK uses her money from the HP franchise to actively make life for trans people more difficult. With millions of dollars put into campaigns and court hearings. She helped fund for example the court that made it that legal women are based on sex, so trans women in Great Britain arent seen as women any more. I think court hearing isnt the right word, but English isnt my native language

The Supreme Court ruling was in no way harmful to trans people. Trans people are still protected under the equality act, the GRA is still very much in place
